Here is all you need to know about Polar Bears in Minecraft.

The Polar bear is a neutral mob that is usually found in icy biomes in the overworld. They are usually passive unless provoked. In the bedrock edition, polar bears will attack the player if they get close to it or its cub. They do not take freezing damage from powder snow. Polar bears were added to the Java edition of the game in update 1.10. Here is all you need to know about polar bears in Minecraft.

Where do Polar Bears spawn in Minecraft

Polar bears spawn in the following biomes:

  • Frozen River‌ (Bedrock edition only)

  • Snowy Plains

  • Ice Spikes

  • Frozen Ocean

  • Deep Frozen Ocean

  • Snowy Slopes (Bedrock edition only)

  • Jagged Peaks (Bedrock edition only)

  • Frozen peaks (Bedrock edition only)

Polar bears will usually spawn in groups of up to two at light level 7 or higher. If spawning in a group, the second bear will always be a cub.

Polar Bears in Minecraft are found in ice covered biomes.

How to deal with Polar Bears in Minecraft

If provoked, polar bears will attack you by standing on their back legs and mauling with their front paws. They are also fast swimmers so getting away from them is almost impossible if you’re in water. They are generally passive (in Java edition) unless you attack them or their cubs. So you can simply avoid dealing with them by not attacking them. In the Bedrock edition, a polar bear will attack you if you get too close to it. If you slay a polar bear it will drop 1–3 experience orbs from player or tamed wolves kills. There is also a 3 in 4 chance it will drop 0-2 raw cod (cooked cod if killed by fire). There is also a 1 in 4 chance it will drop 0-2 raw salmon (cooked salmon if killed by fire).

How to breed Polar Bears in Minecraft

Unfortunately, there is currently no way of breeding polar bears in Minecraft survival mode for Java or Bedrock edition. You also cannot speed up a polar bear cub’s growth at the moment. You can only use a spawn egg in creative mode to ‘breed’ more polar bears. There are certain (now defunct) mods that you can use in bedrock to breed them. However, they have not been updated for the current version of Minecraft.
