On 1st February 2024, Raven Software, the creative force behind Call of Duty Warzone, dropped a surprise for players. A bunch of patch notes have been released, introducing the Battle Royale Preview to Warzone's playlist rotation.

This is a limited-time mode that gives players a sneak peek into what the game might bring in the future. These features might potentially join the standard Warzone experience in the future. If you are confused as to what to expect, in this article, we'll share the features that have been added to this mode and more.

Call of Duty Warzone Battle Royale Preview Explained

Battle Royale Preview is essentially a testing ground, a Limited Time Mode (LTM). It will allow Activision to gather data and player feedback on new systems and in-game features.

The official Call of Duty patch notes do mention that this mode may or may not migrate to the standard Battle Royale mode. This decision will be based on player responses. This is a great way for players to contribute to the development and updates of the game.

What is The Call of Duty Warzone Battle Royale Preview?

The Battle Royale Preview can accommodate up to 100 players on the Urzikstan map. However, for now, the squad sizes are set to quads. And, there's no room for Solos, Duos, or Trios.

If you're up for a challenge, Squad Fill lets you team up with random allies and test out this feature. This allows the devs to test out the features holistically.

Call of Duty Warzone Battle Royale Preview Features

The headlining features are the Covert Exfil and the Weapon Case features. They will be available at launch.

  • Covert Exfil - Players can spend up to $30,000 at Buy Stations to purchase up to five Covert Exfils. Activating this feature will summon a chopper that will airlift any player, friend, or foe, out of the match, ideally with a weapon case. Opponents nearby will also be alerted, allowing them to intercept or steal the escape. Players who succeed will appear on a leaderboard. However, Covert Exfil does not count as a last-player-standing victory. Those left behind can still aim for a standard victory.

  • Weapon Case - In Battle Royale Preview, a single Weapon Case will spawn randomly on the Tac Map at the beginning of the match. The squad member holding it will be marked for opponents. The objective is to either pull off a Covert Exfil or get a standard victory with the Weapon Case. Players who win can earn rewards like unique Weapon Decals, Stickers, and a special "Harrow" MTZ-762 Weapon Blueprint for the fifth case. For ongoing cases (beyond five), a 15-minute Double Weapon XP Token will repeat as a reward. An exclusive "Mortem" Operator Skin is also awaiting you as a bonus reward.
