If you recall correctly, Skarner was voted by the community as the champion who would receive a rework in 2023. However, due to multiple issues that the dev team encountered along the way, the rework was pushed back. After being delayed for quite a long time, Riot Games finally pushed Skarner's rework and visual and gameplay update (VGU) on the current pubic beta environment (PBE) cycle.
In this article, we will take a closer look at all the skins that Skarner has in League of Legends.
Skarner's Skins in League of Legends
A VGU in League of Legends combines both a champion update and visual rework. The scale of the kit rework is usually slightly larger than a kit rework alone as the developers can plan for more in-depth visual effects and model changes. The champion's core theme might remain intact through the process.
When Skarner won the poll in 2022, Ryan “Reav3” Mireles said: “We’re super excited that Skarner won the VGU vote, as we think he has tons of potential to be something truly special on the League roster. We’ve tried smaller reworks of Skarner’s kit in the past, but it never really increased his playrate, so we’ll be looking to do a massive reboot of his kit, theme, and visuals (similar to Sion and Urgot). We’ll look to keep his kidnapping ult in some form, but otherwise, we’ll be rebuilding him from the ground up.
Here are all the skins that Skarner has in League of Legends which all look different very soon in the game:
Skarner Sandscourge
Eartherune Skarner
Battlecast Alpha Skarner
Guardians of the Sands Skarner
Cosmic Sting Skarner
Reworked Skarner Abilities
Passive – Threads of Vibration
Skarner’s attacks, Shattered Earth, Upheaval, and Impale apply Quaking to enemies. Enemies with three stacks of Quaking take % Max HP damage over time.
Q – Shattered Earth
Q1: Skarner rips a rock out of the ground and uses it to empower his next three attacks with bonus damage, range, and attack speed. His third attack slams the rock into his target, slowing and dealing significant bonus damage, ending the effect.
Q2 (Upheaval): Skarner may re-cast Upheaval to throw the rock as a projectile that explodes on the first enemy hit, dealing the same damage and slow, ending the effect.
W – Seismic Bastion
Skarner gains a shield and slams into the ground, releasing a shockwave that damages and slows nearby enemies.
E – Ixtal’s Impact
Skarner charges forward, ignoring terrain, and grabs the first enemy champion or large monster he collides with. He may then carry them a short way, damaging and stunning them if they collide with terrain.
R – Impale
Skarner impales up to three enemy champions, damaging and suppressing them. Skarner gains bonus movement speed for a short time and carries them with him until the end of the effect.
