The popular Non-Fungible Token (NFT) game, Axie Infinity will be releasing its highly-anticipated update, the Axie Infinity: Origin sometime in late March. While the exact release date is yet to be revealed, Sky Mavis, the developers behind the NFT game have posted a ton of teasers on what players can expect in the upcoming update. The Origin update is a new battle system that will feature fast-paced combat and a way for players to experience Axie Infinity for free as it will give players three starter Axies for free. According to Sky Mavis, the update will come in phases and will gradually expand in future updates.
Starter Axies will be made available for free in the Axie Infinity: Origin update
After massive balance changes for both the economic and gameplay aspects of Axie Infinity, Sky Mavis is set on entering the next phase of its popular NFT game. The Origin update will provide players with three free Axies named Olek, Buba, and Puffy along with new gameplay mechanics.
According to the official post from Sky Mavis, these starter Axies are not considered NFTs and cannot earn Smooth Love Potions (SLP), the in-game currency of Axie Infinity. However, the developers may be open to the possibility of allowing these Axies to acquire SLP in future updates. Players can unlock more starter Axies by progressing through the Player vs Enemy (PvE) Adventure mode.
For now, the upcoming Origin update will soft launch soon with a limited set of features such as a PvE story mode, Runes, Charms, training mode, and a ranked mode. The in-game mechanics will also be simplified with Critical Hits now based on a rage meter instead of being random.
“We know a lot of our dedicated players will have no problem picking up the new Battle system in Origin. However, we want to make sure Origin is not too overwhelming for your friends and other new players as well,” stated Sky Mavis.
The developers also promised that the Axie Infinity: Origin update will receive more updates in the future which shall include more cosmetics, NFT runes, and charms. These in-game mechanics will require SLPs and Moonshards to craft which will also serve as the “SLP burning” mechanism of the game.
