Axie Infinity Tournament to be held in the Philippines soon

With the rise in popularity of Axie Infinity in the Philippines, the developers are now considering bolstering its esports scene. According to a report from BitPinas, the Philippines lead for Sky Mavis, Nix Iniego, revealed that they are working on hosting events in the Philippines.

“So, there’s no specific date yet. What I can share with you guys—I’m very open, I’m very transparent—is (that) I am currently working on a framework on how we’re going to do events here in the Philippines. I don’t have a date on a specific, like Axie (Infinity) Convention or something like that. But we’re planning some events here in the Philippines, for sure,” said Iniego.

One of the main goals of Sky Mavis is to provide support for community members to also host their own Axie Infinity events. Iniego stated that this idea is still being planned but will eventually come to fruition in the near future.

Additionally, the developer revealed that an undisclosed tournament organizer is planning on hosting a tournament that will be open to all Axie Infinity players in the Philippines.

“I was in a meeting with a tournament organizer and I asked them that question. I was like ‘do you have any plans on creating a tournament where it’s open qualifiers and anyone can join, and doesn’t have to be streamers or content creators?’ They said yes, they’re working on it,” he said.

The developer also shared his outlook on the upcoming launch of Axie Infinity: Origin. He emphasized that he wants players to showcase the possibilities of a free-to-play player dominating tournaments against well-invested players.

“Imagine, with Origin, there will be free starter Axies, right? My dream is to see a free-to-play player who is using the starter (Axies) and become the champion of a tournament,” Iniego said.

Axie Infinity: Origin is a fast-paced version of the classic NFT game title which will provide players with a starter Axie to play test the game before deciding on whether they should invest in the game or not.

He added that he is a big fan of tournaments and will continue to support the idea of hosting multiple community-driven tournaments for Axie Infinity.
