Tundra Esports vs Team Spirit: Match recap and highlights

Recap

Despite having brought in the duo of Egor "Nightfall" Grigorenko & two-time TI (The International) winner Topias "Topson" Taavitsainen in its Upper Bracket Finals match against Gaimin Gladiators, Tundra Esports played the Grand Finals with its full roster.

In Game One, Team Spirit went for an aggressive draft by picking up the trio of Morphling, Centaur Warrunner and Pangolier. Tundra Esports on the other hand opted for a more stabilized draft by picking up Enigma and Naga Siren. Team Spirit dominated the early game as Magomed "Collapse" Khalilov’s Centaur bullied Oliver "skiter" Lepko’s Naga Siren badly. However despite its advantages, Team Spirit were unable to contend against Tundra’s late game potential and lost Game One after 68 minutes.

In Game Two, Team Spirit gambled by picking up Alchemist for Illya "Yatoro" Mulyarchuk while Tundra retained the Enigma while switching up the drafts. While the early game went in Tundra’s favor, the mid-game saw Team Spirit’s gamble paid off as Yatoro’s Alchemist gave his team the much-needed lead. However, once again Team Spirit’s lead slowly faded away as Tundra Esports punished Spirit’s misplays and claimed Game Two.

Game Three started off badly for Leon "Nine" Kirilin, as he just walked into the enemy team and died, giving Denis "Larl" Sigitov a decent head start on the Storm Spirit. A disastrous teamfight around the 20th minute mark almost cost Team Spirit the whole series. However, having fed up with giving away leads in the first two games Team Spirit were able to overcome Tundra’s networth advantage and secured Game Three after 43 minutes.

Game Four began with a bloodbath, as both teams drafted heroes that were suitable for early game aggression. However, Team Spirit’s snowball draft massively overpowered Tundra’s as they quickly claimed the game after 24 minutes.

In game 5, Team Spirit once again went for another hyper-aggressive lineup featuring Tusk, Shadow Fiend and Io in order to complete the reverse sweep. Spirit almost had the victory in their grasp as they relentlessly pressured Tundra’s base, however Tundra’s late game composition & map presence allowed the team to turn things around. With the game all but lost, Team Spirit called “GG” after 54 minutes.

Highlights

Here are some highlights of the series:

Tundra Esports had quite the winter tour, as the team placed third by playing a three-way tiebreaker in what is arguably the most stacked region at the moment. However, its victory in the BetBoom Universe tournament would certainly boost the team’s morale for the upcoming Lima Major.

As for Team Spirit, this would be the second tournament that the team had placed second in with the new roster. However, having pushed Tundra Esports to the absolute limit in a best of five series the team will be highly motivated to get revenge at the Major.
