The International 2022 (TI11) is just around the corner, but before the group stage begins, the last chance qualifier in Singapore will see 12 teams competing for two spots at TI11. In accordance with PGL's communication on 21st Sept, the last chance qualifier takes place from 8th to 12th Oct. In the qualifier, the 12 teams will be split into two groups of six teams each, after which all the teams will be placed in a double elimination playoff format as determined by their group seeding. The playoffs do not feature a grand final since two teams advance to TI11.
The TI11 last chance qualifier will be held from 8th to 12th Oct, with a group stage followed by playoffs
As part of a blog post on its website, PGL, which has been in charge of TI operations for the past few years, outlined the details of the last chance qualifier.
“In less than 3 weeks, the battle for the last two spots for The International 2022 Group Stage will begin,” PGL confirmed the dates for the last chance qualifier for The International 2022.
In terms of format, there will be two groups, each comprising the following teams.
Group A
Team Secret
Vici Gaming
Polaris Esports
Natus Vincere
Nouns
Tempest
Group B
Team Liquid
Xtreme Gaming
T1
Virtus.pro
Wildcard Gaming
Infamous
The first day's group stage games begin at 10:00 am SGT.
Following the end of all Bo2 group stage series on 9th Oct, the top four teams in each group advance to the upper bracket of the playoffs, while the bottom two begin in the lower bracket. All series in the double elimination playoffs will be Bo3s from 10th to 12th Oct, with the winners of the upper and lower bracket finals gaining berths at TI11.
TI11's last chance qualifier's first four days will have multiple series running simultaneously, with only the final day having one series running at a time.
The last chance qualifier is a unique addition to TI this year and it is to “balance out the qualification in light of the potential DPC point discrepancy created by the absence of the first Major.” The first Major of Dota Pro Circuit (DPC) 2021-22 was canceled and replaced with "Regional Finals" online events, with the same amount of points for all regions.
As the last chance qualifier comes to an end, the group stage of TI11 will begin on 15th Oct, with 20 teams competing for the lion's share of the prize pool. The prize pool stands at over $12,000,000 USD at the time of writing.
