Team Spirit's journey of winning the Aegis of Champions at The International 10 (TI10) was truly an impressive feat and along the way, there were some highlights that made the story all the more riveting. One of the most discussed aspects of the victory was Magomed "Collapse" Khalilov's performance on Magnus. During the TI10 Main Event, Collapse made several breathtaking plays on Magnus that not only pushed the lead forward but also led to some crucial turnarounds. To recreate the heroics of Collapse at TI10, Dota 2 players are now spamming Magnus in their pub games. Consequently, there has been a significant increase in the pick rate and cosmetics price of Magnus in the past week.

Magnus shoots in popularity following Team Spirit’s Collapse’s heroics at TI10

Magnus did not garner much attention during the early part of the group stage, but he was prioritized much more towards the end of the group stage and throughout the Main Event. In Dota 2 matchmaking, a similar pattern was also observed. Magnus, whose pick rate hovered around 6% and 7% between 20th Sept 2021 and 10th Oct 2021, got a huge boost in the next seven to eight days. These are Magnus' recorded pick rate percentages over the last few days, according to Dotabuff.

  • 11th Oct: 8.15%

  • 12th Oct: 8.14%

  • 13th Oct: 10.33%

  • 14th Oct: 10.92%

  • 15th Oct: 14.61%

  • 16th Oct: 14.91%

  • 17th Oct: 18.59% (Grand Final day)

  • 18th Oct: 23.12%

Magnus' pick rate in the last 30 days

When you consider that the pick rate for all heroes is 8.26%, these are truly astounding numbers.

Although popularity has increased recently, the win rate percentage graph of the hero has remained flat around 47% in the past month.

In addition, the prices of Magnus' cosmetic items have risen in the past few days due to the "Collapse effect." The hero's growing popularity has seemingly brought in more players to purchase its cosmetic items. Two of the most used items on the hero - Shock of the Anvil (Immortal) and Taunt: Mag Power! (Taunt) - have seen their prices surge on the Steam Community Market.

The price of the Magnus Immortal has already doubled after Collapse's feats at TI10

The Immortal was trading for about $1 USD this past month and is now starting at $2.71 USD at the time of writing this article. Similarly, the price of the Taunt had been stagnating at around $0.15 USD for the last month, but the hero’s recent popularity has seen it sell for around $0.80, indicating a 5x price increase. At the time of writing this article, the Taunt begins at $0.77 USD.

During the TI10 Main Event, Collapse led some of the most ridiculous Magnus plays by utilizing the hero’s abilities to their fullest potential. The Aghanim's Shard which grants the hero the additional ability of 'Horn Toss' was what Collapse used most efficiently with Skewer. Horn Toss allows the hero to toss enemies into the air for 0.6 seconds and then stun them for 0.75 seconds. While the ability deals damage as well, what makes it all the more promising is the large area that allows Magnus players to toss the enemies and bring them to unfavorable locations using Skewer.

In addition, the original 'Empower' and 'Reverse Polarity' abilities of Magnus are also at a player’s disposal, making Magnus one of the most effective heroes in the patch.
