On Twitter, Roddgeee thanked Team SMG for the time together and announced that he is now looking for a new team.

Team SMG has parted ways with its position five player Roger "Roddgeee" Tan Boon Thye ahead of Tour 2 of the Southeast Asia (SEA) Dota Pro Circuit (DPC) 2022-22: Division 1. In a tweet, Team SMG acknowledged Roddgeee's departure and thanked him for his contributions. The roster change follows Team SMG's third-place finish in the DPC SEA 2021-22 Regional Finals. Following the announcement, Roddgeee underlined his credentials in a tweet on his personal handle to inform that he is now open to offers from new teams.

The roster lock date for Tour 2 is 27th Feb so Team SMG's new position five player is expected to be announced shortly. In the ongoing BTS Pro Series S10, the team has been playing with Swedish Dota 2 player Johan "pieliedie" Åström as its position five player.

Roddgeee is no longer a Team SMG member

“We would like to thank @roddgeee for all his hard work and dedication for Team SMG during our time together,” Team SMG tweeted about the player's departure.

The departure of Roddgeee leaves Team SMG without a position five player.

  1. Yeik "MidOne" Nai Zheng

  2. Kam "Moon" Boon Seng

  3. Ryan "Raging Potato" Jay Qui

  4. Tue "ah fu" Soon Chuan

  5. TBD

Roddgeee also thanked Team SMG and stated that he was now seeking a new team.

After serving as the team's position five player for nine months, Roddgeee parts ways. The team made some noticeable progress during this time but it wasn't able to overpower the top teams such as T1 and BOOM Esports in the region. A few notable results Roddgeee achieved during his time with Team SMG are a win in the OB.Moon Asian Arena, a fourth place finish in Tour 1 of the DPC 2021-22, and a third place finish in the Regional Finals.

Despite delivering some strong performances in the Regional Finals - even eliminating Fnatic - Team SMG was just unable to overcome BOOM Esports in either the lower or the upper bracket. The team finished third and earned $15,000 USD in prize money, but no DPC points.

Team SMG now requires a new position five player in order to finalize its Dota 2 roster for the DPC 2021-22 Tour 2 unless it decides to make further changes in other roles. Interestingly, during the ongoing BTS Pro Series S10, the team has been playing with Swedish Dota 2 player Johan "pieliedie" Åström as its stand-in position five player. Pieliedie, a veteran of the European Dota 2 scene, last competed in The International 10 (TI10)’s Western Europe (WEU) qualifier in July 2021 for Team Bald Reborn.

The roster lock date for Tour 2 of the DPC 2021-22 is 27th Feb, so Team SMG's fifth and final member is expected to be announced soon. Tour 2 begins on 14th March.
