With the roster shuffle season officially concluded, many believed that the ex-Evil Geniuses roster will be competing under the name “Alameda 2018” for the upcoming season. However, hours before the deadline for roster locks, Canadian based organization Shopify Rebellion announced that it has acquired the ex-Evil Geniuses roster as it enters the Dota 2 competitive scene.

While Shopify Rebellion is mainly known for its multinational eCommerce company Shopify, the organization is also well known for its star-studded Starcraft 2 roster.

SabeRLight- completes Shopify Rebellions’ roster for DPC 2022/2023

“Please welcome Shopify Rebellion DOTA 2” the organization announced its entry into the Dota 2 scene on Twitter.

Shopify Rebellions’ Dota 2 roster for the 2022/2023 Dota Pro Circuit (DPC) season has been confirmed as the following:

  1. Artour "Arteezy" Babaev

  2. Abed "Abed" Yusop

  3. Jonáš "SabeRLight-" Volek

  4. Andreas "Cr1t-" Nielsen

  5. Tal "Fly" Aizik

  • Kanishka 'Sam' "BuLba" Sosale (coach)

On the final day of the roster shuffle season, many were shocked by the surprising departure of TSM’s Jonáš "SabeRLight-" Volek as many expected him to be staying with the North American organization for the upcoming season.

However, the Czech offlaner would immediately find himself in a new roster as part of the Shopify Rebellion roster as he replaced the departing Egor "Nightfall" Grigorenko who returned to Eastern Europe to play for BetBoom Team for the upcoming season.

During the roster shuffle season, the former Evil Geniuses roster was released by the organization as it relocated to South America to build a new star-studded roster with South American players. However, the ex-EG roster has ownership of its former organization’s DPC slot in the NA region which means that the roster can continue to play in the first division of the regional league for the upcoming season.

While team captain Tal "Fly" Aizik announced at first that the team will compete under the name “Alameda 2018”, the roster was quickly picked up by Shopify Rebellion as it looks to expand into the Dota 2 competitive scene.

Following the announcement, Shopify Rebellion will be playing in the first division of the NA DPC league for the upcoming season. However, can the organization compete with the likes of TSM, B8 Esports & Arkosh Gaming?
