Jack "KBBQ" Chen, the manager of the North American Dota 2 team Quincy Crew, announced that the squad will compete in the International 10 (TI10) under its own banner. In a blog post on Twitlonger, KBBQ talked about the last 15 months that the team spent together and how the name Quincy Crew means a lot to them now. Though they are still looking for sponsors and partners to expand their community reach, the name of the team “will be at TI10 in one way or another,” said KBBQ. The North American team is currently in Ukraine for a bootcamp, preparing for the ESL One Summer 2021, which will take place from June 16-20, 2021. Quincy Crew is guaranteed a TI10 slot after having finished in the fourth spot in the DPC 2021 rankings with 1100 points.
KBBQ explains why Quincy Crew will play under its own name at TI10
When Quincy Crew was first established in 2018, it was an unsponsored stack. Over the next year, which included the period of TI9, Quincy Crew played under major Dota 2 organizations such as Newbee, Forward Gaming, and Chaos Esports Club. All of these organizations, however, came and left.
Going into TI10, the team is once again without an organization after having been last sponsored in March 2020. While KBBQ noted that the organization of Newbee made them the best offer before TI9 and treated them like family, this time Quincy Crew decided not to go to TI under someone else's name.
“This time, we won't be going to TI as someone else. We are once again in discussion with possible partners and sponsors, but the name Quincy Crew will be at TI10 in one way or another. Some things are beyond any price.”Jack "KBBQ" Chen
KBBQ continues by explaining what makes the name "Quincy Crew" even more special.
“It was once not much more than a goony placeholder between TI and sponsorship. But then one day both of those things disappeared, and our name was almost all we had left. That, and competitive Dota at its purest and simplest: (is) a team of people who believe in one another, ready to take on the world.”Jack "KBBQ" Chen
Quincy Crew had multiple roster changes until YawaR, Quinn, SVG, and MSS assembled on the same team after TI9. Lelis joined the team in June 2020 and the roster has not changed since then, dominating the NA region by securing multiple tournament victories along with decent success in International tournaments, evidenced by a 5th-6th finish at the WePlay AniMajor.
Quincy Crew is still looking to partner with organizations to expand its community presence and has communicated its intention to produce team merchandise.
“As we continue to welcome and evaluate partnerships (DMs and emails still open!) in the coming weeks, we will be expanding our presence on community outlets and expect to have jackets, jerseys, and other merchandise available soon.”Jack "KBBQ" Chen
KBBQ ended his blog post by thanking all Quincy Crew fans for their love in both good and bad times. He, along with his team, aims to repay all the fans in Stockholm at TI10.
About Quincy Crew
Quincy Crew is a North American Dota 2 team that was founded by ex-VGJ Storm players - YawaR, Resolut1on, Sneyking, MSS, and SVG following TI8 in August 2018. In September 2019, Forward Gaming came on board to sign up the roster. Prior to TI9, Forward Gaming parted ways with the roster post which Newbee recruited them. Newbee parted ways with them post TI9 leading to the players competing under the Quincy Crew banner once again. Chaos Esports Club signed Quincy Crew’s players in November 2019. In March of 2020, this ended, and the team has been left without a sponsor since then. While YawaR, MSS, and SVG had been members of the team since the beginning, Quinn became a member in March 2019. Lelis, as mentioned above, joined in June 2020.
Quincy Crew is currently led by Avery "SVG" Silverman and managed by Jack "KBBQ" Chen. The team has won $293,922 USD in total prize money since its inception in the NA region.
After the ESL One Summer 2021 event, the players will fly back and rest before reuniting for the biggest Dota 2 tournament of the year - The International 10.
