Team SMG has announced that it has parted ways with Johan "pieliedie" Åström and moved Ryan "Raging Potato" Qui into its inactive roster. Team SMG had a below average DPC campaign after finishing in 6th place in the SEA Dota Pro Circuit (DPC) 2021-22 Tour 3: Division I, barely avoiding relegation. Team SMG brought in Pieliedie after controversially removing Michael "ninjaboogie" Ross Jr in an attempt to secure a slot to the Arlington Major but went on to fail to meet its expectations. The team will now be debuting its new lineup in the Gamers Galaxy: Dota 2 Invitational HatYai Thailand & T11 Regional Qualifiers.
Pieliedie & Raging Potato Leaves Team SMG After the Conclusion of the SEA DPC Tour 3: Division I
Pieliedie was brought in to replace ninjaboogie ahead of the SEA DPC Tour 3: Division 1 after the latter was controversially kicked from Team SMG due to his team allegedly assuming his mother’s stage 4 cancer diagnosis would affect his performances. Team SMG with the addition of pieliedie ended the SEA DPC 2021-22 Tour 3: Division I in a disappointing 6th place, the same place where the team finished last tour with ninjaboogie. Meanwhile, Raging Potato joined Team SMG in the beginning of the DPC season, replacing the departing Damien "kpii" Chok who moved to Talon Esports during the roster shuffle window after the conclusion of The International 2021.
“Today we announce that our Dota 2 player, Raging Potato, will move to our inactive roster. However, he will be allowed to explore his new options in pursuing new opportunities.
Meanwhile, as for today too, we will say goodbye to pieliedie.” said Team SMG in its announcement post on Facebook. “Thank you for your hard work and dedication during your time with Team SMG. It's been a pleasure, and we wish you all the best in the future.”
After the announcement, Team SMG’s current roster is:
Yeik "MidOne" Nai Zheng
Kam "Moon" Boon Seng
Tue "ah fu" Soon Chuan
The organization will have to bolster their roster over the duration of August as they will be participating in GAMERS GALAXY: Dota 2 Invitational HatYai Thailand along with other top SEA teams such as FNATIC, BOOM Esports & Talon Esports as well as competing in the TI11’s Regional Qualifiers which starts on 3rd September.
