OG’s Matthew "Ari" Walker took to X (formerly Twitter) on 13th March to share that he reached the Diamond IV rank in League of Legends in just 281 games. For comparison, the Diamond IV rank of League of Legends is equivalent to the Ancient-Divine rank in Dota 2. This is mighty impressive to achieve as a new League of Legends player but then again Ari is a professional Dota 2 player who is currently ranked 63rd on the Dota 2 European Leaderboard. He is also not new to the concept of MOBAs.
Ari’s Impressive Feat in League of Legends
On 13th March, Ari took to X and shared that he had been indulging in the League of Legends experience during his free time. Before he knew it, he secured the Diamond rank in around ~130 hours. He added that he, “still don't understand half the heroes’ spells but the MOBA concepts stand strong. Can’t wait for the jungle patch in Dota. I’m already practicing for it,” Ari jokingly added, sharing his proud achievement on X.
The ranks in League of Legends are as follows:
Iron
Bronze
Silver
Gold
Platinum
Emerald
Diamond
Master
Grand Master
Challenger
According to Leagueofgraphs, the Diamond rank consists of 3.8% of the total player base, which is respectable in its own right. The OG position four support also shared the number of total games played, his win rate, and the total time played.
Ari admitted that although he didn’t have a proper grasp of the game’s heroes’ skill he was still able to achieve such a commendable rank in League of Legends largely due to his strong foundation in MOBA games like Dota 2. As one of the top-ranked Dota 2 players, Ari’s rank in League of Legends may not come as a surprise to many.
However, this is not the first time players from these two titles have tried their hands at the other title, in 2023 former League of Legends pro, Zachary “Sneaky” Scuderi achieved a similar feat to Ari’s, earning a commendable rank of Ancient I in 300 games. He was one of the first LoL pros to secure such a rank.
Recently, former Warcraft III pro Manuel "Grubby" Schenkhuizen recently announced he was quitting Dota 2 due to the toxicity of the community. After achieving 6000 MMR in Dota 2, he has been playing League of Legends on the side and may make it his next focus to secure the highest rank medal in the game.
