Retired Finnish Dota 2 carry Lasse "MATUMBAMAN" Urpalainen intends to join the Finnish military and fulfill his conscription in January 2023.
MATUMBAMAN officially retired from competitive Dota 2 following Team Liquid's third place at TI11. The player had communicated this retirement a long time ago, stating that this would be his final year as a professional Dota 2 player.
Following the completion of his conscription, MATUMBAMAN is likely to spend a lot of time on his boat.

With Team Liquid finishing third in The International 11 (TI11), Finnish Dota 2 carry Lasse "MATUMBAMAN" Urpalainen ended his competitive Dota 2 career on a high note. Fans have been eager to learn about the player's future plans but in spite him announcing this decision quite a while back, he has been unsure about what he would do after. For the next few months, however, it seems MATUMBAMAN will be part of the Finnish military service. In a recent comment to the Finnish newspaper Ilta-Sanomat, the TI7 winner said he had not yet served his conscription and he planned on doing so in January 2023.

After retiring from competitive Dota 2, the 27-year-old has decided to fulfill his national duty by serving in the Finnish military.

“I'm chilling and going over there... What's the matter... Defending our country a bit in the army over there. I haven't been to Intti, so I'm now thinking of going there in January. We'll see what happens,” MATUMBAMAN stated in an Ilta-Sanomat article a few days back.

The Finnish military conscription system requires all men between the ages of 18 and 60 to take part in obligatory national defense service for a period of either 165, 255, or 347 days, depending on the kind of service and training that they undertake.

Dota 2 fans had a bittersweet experience watching their beloved carry player walk off stage at TI11 for the last time after Liquid had an impressive lower bracket run to finish third. In spite of the tough year MATUMBAMAN and Liquid went through, they were able to bring their best game during TI11 to surpass a number of formidable opponents.

Therefore, it was a fitting end to his illustrious career which saw numerous tournament wins such as the Epicenter 2016 & 2017, the China Dota2 Supermajor, the DreamLeague Season 13, and most importantly the historic TI7 win with Team Liquid.

MATUMBAMAN is well known for his versatility in playing both the midlaner and carry roles effectively, which gave his teams a great deal of flexibility. The zoo heroes such as Lone Druid, Broodmother, and Lycan were among his dreaded heroes.

Following the completion of his conscription, MATUMBAMAN is likely to spend a lot of time on his sailing boat. As he spends his time relaxing while sailing, he looks forward to formulating a more concrete plan for his future as he contemplates the options.
