Team SMG, a professional Dota 2 team based in Southeast Asia (SEA), recently finished 3rd in the Dota Pro Circuit (DPC) SEA Tour 2: Division I standings, securing a spot at the Berlin Major 2023. However, the team's performance at the Berlin Major fell short of expectations, as it was eliminated in the group stages after a disappointing score of 4 wins and 12 losses. Despite this setback, the team is looking to bounce back in the next DPC Tour, and rumors suggest that its offlane player, Yeik "MidOne" Nai Zheng, may be switching back to the midlane position. The team recently parted ways with Kam "Moon" Boon Seng and Wilson "poloson" Koh, but have yet to officially announce their replacements. According to Dota 2 Pro Tracker, MidOne has been practicing midlane in his pub games, fueling speculation that he may be preparing to make the switch for the upcoming season.

Midone’s return to the midlane?

Team SMG's offlane player MidOne may be switching back to the midlane position for the next DPC tour. According to Dota 2 Pro Tracker, MidOne has been playing midlane in his pub games, indicating that he may be preparing to make a return to the position he played for most of his career. MidOne has ample experience in the midlane, playing the position during his stints for Fnatic and Team Secret, and even having experience playing as a carry for a short while with OG.

Remaining Two Players in Team SMG

Team SMG parted ways with Moon and Polson after its unsuccessful run at the Berlin Major 2023. However, the team has not yet officially announced their replacements. According to the official Dota 2 roster registration website, Jaunuel "Jaunuel" Arcilla and Natthaphon "Masaros" Ouanphakdee have been added to the team's roster. Jaunuel is a support player who last played for Geek Slate and Masaros is an offlane player who is currently on the inactive roster of Bleed Esports. If these two players officially join SMG, rumors of Midone switching to the midlane may be true, as it would leave only the midlane position open in the team.

It remains to be seen if MidOne will make a return to the midlane position for Team SMG in the upcoming DPC tour. Nothing has been officially confirmed yet, but with Midone playing midlane in his pub games and the team adding support and offlane players to its roster, it seems like a possibility. Fans will have to wait for an official announcement from Team SMG to know for sure.
