In the roster shuffle that has been going on post the ESL One Berlin Major, Old G has been making the rounds the most thanks to its acquisition of PuckChamp's Division II slot. Popular Dota 2 livestreamer Janne "Gorgc" Stefanovski revealed recently that he had made Old G a similar offer to acquire Team Bald Reborn's Division II slot a few months ago. The offer was provided before the Dota Pro Circuit (DPC) Western Europe (WEU) 2023 Tour 1: Division II, but Old G had turned it down. Opting to go through the open qualifier, the team lost the closed qualifier and failed to qualify for Division II.
Gorgc talks about Old G declining Team Bald Reborn's Division II slot offer
As Old G declined the offer, Gorgc mentioned that he received an offer from another team to sell the slot but decided against it since two-time TI runner up Aliwi "w33" Omar joined them for Tour 1.
“I offered to sell them my slot as well last time before we went 0-7. I should have sold that slot. I offered Old G to buy it from me but they did not want to buy it. Nobody wanted to…I think there was one team that kind of wanted to buy our slot but they ended up not buying it. We got w33 haa and I was like - we are surely going to win.”
After turning down their respective offers, Old G and Team Bald Reborn did not have the best results. Old G failed to advance beyond the closed qualifiers, while Team Bald lost all seven series and was eliminated from Division II.
Old G earned a Division II slot in Tour 2 but failed to live up to expectations and was eliminated after failing to play the tiebreaker game against PuckChamp due to two of its players' unavailability.
As Old G was disqualified from Tour 3 Division II closed qualifiers owing to conduct concerns, the Dota 2 community was apprehensive about Sébastien "Ceb" Debs and his team mates' participation in the DPC 2023 going forward. PuckChamp's sudden slot acquisition, however, took a larger proportion of the audience by surprise.
Old G will now compete against the likes of Nigma Galaxy, Monaspa, and others in a bid to qualify for Division I in Tour 3. Meanwhile, since the beginning of this year's DPC, Gorgc and Team Bald Reborn have been largely inactive and haven't shown much interest in playing competitively again after Tour 1.
As the focus is about to shift to Division I, which will last around three weeks, Division II of Tour 3 will start in June.
