One of the biggest Dota 2 names globally, Xu "fy" Linsen, has returned to competitive Dota 2 with Invictus Gaming after a seven-month hiatus. In a tweet, Invictus Gaming welcomed the "F-GOD" with a video, showcasing some of his breathtaking plays on signature heroes like Earthshaker and Io. Fy's addition in the position four role brings Invictus Gaming's roster to six players with the organization emphasizing that he is joining as a "freelancer." Invictus Gaming is currently a member of Division 2 of the China Dota Pro Circuit (DPC) 2021-22 and will be seen competing in Tour 3.

“We told you something BIG was coming...HE IS BACK,” Invictus Gaming wrote on Twitter as part of its announcement of fy’s addition to the squad.

Invictus Gaming’s Dota 2 roster now includes the following players:

  • Jin "flyfly" Zhiyi

  • Zhou "Emo" Yi

  • Thiay "JT-" Jun Wen

  • Pan "Fade" Yi

  • Xu "fy" Linsen

  • Chan "Oli" Chon Kien

  • Su "super" Peng (coach)

After being away from the competitive scene for seven months, fy was one of the players with a huge fan base and his return was eagerly anticipated. He last competed with Elephant at The International 10 (TI10) where the team finished 13-16th. He then took time off due to health issues.

While Invictus Gaming has added fy to its roster, it has not let go of Fade, who played as the position four player during Tour 2. Considering that fy is a freelancer, it remains to be seen how the team will switch between the players in the future.

Interestingly, Fy has joined Invictus Gaming at a time when the team is not in the best shape. After a successful year in the DPC 2021, the team struggled in Tour 1 of the DPC 2022 to get relegated to Division 2, and in Tour 2, it finished third in Division 2 and did not move back up to Division 1. As a consequence, fy and Invictus Gaming cannot earn enough points for a direct invite to TI11 anymore, and will therefore be looking to qualify through the regional qualifiers and last chance qualifiers later this year.

Considering the extensive experience and excellent mechanical skill fy brings to the table, it will be interesting to see if the fortunes of Invictus turn around after their lackluster season to date. Fy's debut with Invictus Gaming will likely take place in Tour 3 of the DPC 2021-22, which is expected to begin in the first week of June.
