Former Dota 2 player and popular livestreamer Alaan "SexyBamboe" Faraj has passed away, according to statements by his close friends and multiple Dota 2 personalities. SexyBamboe had last played for Team Bald in the first season of the Dota Pro Circuit (DPC) 2021 and last livestreamed on Twitch in March 2021. Among the first Dota 2 livestreamers, he had emerged as one of the most popular, attracting a large number of viewers to his regular streams over the last few years. SexyBamboe, who hailed from The Netherlands, was 29 years old at the time of his death.
29-year-old former Dota 2 professional and livestreamer SexyBamboe has died
The news of SexyBamboe's passing away began to circulate online a day ago and many of his close friends and fellow streamers expressed their sadness through social media.
At this point, the cause of his death remains unclear, and his friends have asked the community to refrain from speculation.
SexyBamboe was active in the competitive gaming scene for many years and even played DotA professionally in 2009. In a similar move to a number of other DotA pros, he switched over to Dota 2 and even played at The International 2 (TI2) under the mousesports banner. Between 2011 and 2019, SexyBamboe played for a number of teams, most notable of which were mousesports, Evil Geniuses, and Team Zephyr.
Additionally, many players were drawn to Dota 2 back in the day due to livestreams featuring SexyBamboe, Wehsing "SingSing" Yuen, and Janne "Gorgc" Stefanovski.
After streaming consistently for a few years, he decided to stop streaming in March 2021 due to a lack of motivation to play the game. He said he may take some time to return to streaming full-time. Since then, he has occasionally appeared in other Twitch streamers' livestreams but his own last livestream as per Twitch dates back to 19th March 2021.
