Tundra Esports brought out its best version in the ESL One Fall 2021: Bootcamp Edition to win the event. Even so, it cannot be denied that the team would have treasured this victory a bit more had it qualified for The International 10 (TI10). Tundra Esports’ captain, Adrian "Fata" Trinks, acknowledged this saying that the win in ESL One Fall 2021 felt “bittersweet.” On one side of things, they had beaten the best teams on the planet in the event, many of whom would be playing at TI10, but on the other, they knew they were not going to compete against these teams at Dota 2’s biggest stage.

Fata describes his feelings after winning ESL One Fall 2021 with Tundra Esports

Tundra Esports has gone from being a stack to being one of Europe's best in 2021. However, the team peaked a bit too late. Their performance in TI10's Europe qualifier was incredible, but they lost to OG in the grand finals 3-2 and failed to qualify for TI10.

Now, they have finally won a Dota 2 tournament in the form of ESL One Fall 2021, where the best teams competed. In the post-match winner's interview, Tundra Esports' captain, Fata spoke with emotion considering their loss in TI10's Europe qualifier and then the subsequent win in ESL One Fall 2021.

Asked to compare this victory to his first as a captain with Alliance back in 2019, Fata said that this one was more prestigious. Although he knew his team wouldn't be going to TI this year, they lifted themselves up and won a tournament.

“I would say, it’s different. I felt like this tournament was a bit more prestigious than Rotterdam (DreamLeague S12 with Alliance) as well. That’s why I am really proud of the guys for pulling through. Especially with the hardship of not making it to TI and still being able to lift ourselves up and play Dota. I am really proud, it’s a great feeling. It’s always gonna be bittersweet but gotta look at the positives. It’s great, winning tournaments is always great.”

Oliver "skiter" Lepko, the safelaner for Tundra Esports, shared the same sentiments as his captain. Despite the loss at TI10’s qualifier, the victory is of great significance for skiter, who is an emerging Dota 2 player, and he hopes his team has a bright future ahead of them.

“I mean, it’s great. I haven’t won anything like this big ever so it’s great. Especially after such a devastating loss at TI (qualifiers) but I already knew at that time that we can go a long way if we stick together and keep working hard. I believe in every one of my teammates including myself and I think we have a good future waiting for us.”

Should Tundra Esports be at TI10?

In the ESL One Fall 2021, Tundra Esports surpassed Virtus.pro - Eastern Europe's best, PSG.LGD - China's best, T1 - Southeast Asia's best, and Thunder Predator and beastcoast - two of South America's best. Yet, despite this, they will not be taking part in TI this year.

This topic of Tundra Esports competing at this year's TI has been hotly debated among Dota 2 personalities recently. Sébastien "Ceb" Debs believes Tundra Esports should be at TI because they show the best Dota 2 gameplay while personalities such as David "GoDz" Parker believe that even though it is unfortunate, Tundra was not at its best during the Dota Pro Circuit (DPC) and therefore, does not deserve to be at TI.

Next, Tundra Esports will compete in the Sapphire OGA Dota Pit Invitational on September 6th, 2021.
