Dreamleague Season 20 Group Stage 2 has almost ended, after which the playoffs will begin, where the top four teams of the tournament will battle it out in a double elimination format for a chance to claim a share of the $1,000,000 USD prize pool. The Top 4 teams have been decided, where Western European (WEU) dominance seems to have faded, with each team representing a different region.
Top 4 Teams Securing Playoff Spots
After a series of grueling matches in Group Stage 2, the four teams that have secured their spots in the playoffs have been confirmed. The playoff teams are:
PSG.LGD.
BetBoom Esports.
Gaimin Gladiators.
Talon Esports.
PSG.LGD and BetBoom were seen to be dominating forces in Group Stage 2, being tied for 1st place in the standings until both teams went head-to-head. BetBoom showcased some excellent gameplay and defeated PSG.LGD in a dominant 2-0 victory. However, PSG.LGD went on to win all of its other series against other teams, while BetBoom lost against Talon Esports and 9Pandas, pushing the team down to 2nd place in the standings.
The Battle for Upper Bracket: BetBoom and Gaimin Gladiators
BetBoom Esports and Gaimin Gladiators find themselves in a tie for 2nd place in Group Stage 2. To determine their final standings, these two teams will face off in a Best-of-Three (BO3) tiebreaker match. The winner of the match will claim the 2nd place spot and an upper bracket start in the playoffs, while the losing team will settle for 3rd place and a lower bracket start.
Beginning in the upper or lower bracket can have a significant impact on teams in the playoffs, as upper-bracket teams just have to win 1 series to finish in the Top 2 of the tournament and win a Riyadh Masters 2023 invite.
Four Regions in Top 4 of Dreamleague
Surprisingly, the top four teams in Dreamleague Season 20 playoffs represent four different regions. PSG.LGD represents China, BetBoom represents Eastern Europe (EEU), Gaimin Gladiators represents WEU, and Talon Esports represents Southeast Asia (SEA).
Interestingly, the recent elimination of Evil Geniuses, who represented South America (SA), means that every major region except North America (NA) is represented in Group Stage 2 of the tournament. This diverse representation showcases the competitive strength and talent across different regions, and it also suggests a potential shift in the dominance of Western European teams compared to the previous Dreamleague Season 19 playoffs, where 3 teams were from WEU and 1 from NA.
Dreamleague Season 20’s playoffs will begin soon, featuring the top four teams from Group Stage 2. PSG.LGD has secured the 1st place spot and will be up against the winner of the tiebreaker between BetBoom Esports and Gaimin Gladiators, while the loser will face Talon Esports in the lower bracket. The playoffs will begin on the 24th of June, with the lower bracket match and the tournament will conclude by the 25th of June, where the Top 2 will qualify for the Riyadh Masters 2023.
