In a stunning turn of events, one of Dota 2's most celebrated players, Lasse "MATUMBAMAN" Urpalainen, was spotted registered as part of a team participating in the Fuzer Lategame Open 3. This is a tier 4 tournament with a modest €1,500 prize pool. This unexpected comeback comes just a year after MATUMBAMAN officially retired from professional Dota 2 on 30th October 2022.

Known for his exceptional skills and remarkable achievements, including a triumph at The International 7, MATUMBAMAN's return to the competitive stage has taken the Dota 2 community by surprise. His team for the Fuzer Lategame Open 3, "Lassen parhaat miehet + Tommi," secured the only direct invite to the tournament as per the Liquipedia page.

MATUMBAMAN Set to Play Dota 2 Competitively Once Again

In this Tier 4 tournament, MATUMBAMAN will be playing as the midlaner, showcasing his unparalleled expertise and gameplay mechanics. It will be interesting to see how he adapts to the ever-evolving Dota 2 meta after a year of retirement.

MATUMBAMAN last played for Team Liquid, where he and his teammates clinched a commendable 3rd place at The International 2022. The journey came to an end with a hard-fought 1-2 series loss to his former team, Team Secret. Following this event, he surprised the Dota 2 community by announcing his retirement from professional play.

In a heartfelt Twitter post last year, he wrote: “Top 3 once again, was one hell of a run. I cannot imagine a better way to end one's career. Thanks for the enormous support I have received during this event and the past 7 years. Bittersweet moment but I have no regrets. Thank you all and see ya.

Fans of MATUMBAMAN and Dota 2 enthusiasts worldwide buzzing with anticipation as they await the return of the Finnish star to the competitive scene. The Fuzer Lategame Open 3 will be held in the vibrant city of Tampere in Finland. The tournament is slated to happen on 15th and 16th December.

Despite this being a Tier 4 tournament, the prospect of witnessing MATUMBAMAN back in action is an exciting development for the community. The tournament not only provides an opportunity for him to reconnect with his passion for the game but also offers a unique chance for fans to relive some of the magic moments he has created throughout his illustrious career.

However, only time will tell whether this comeback marks MATUMBAMAN’s return to full-time professional play or is a brief stint in the limelight.
