Dota 2 Patch 7.30c Released; Dawnbreaker Gets Added to Captain’s Mode

Dota 2 patch 7.30c has been released about one month before the International 10 (TI10). This update contains a large number of notable changes, chief among them being the addition of Dawnbreaker, who had been cooling her heels in pubs since her release in April 2021, to Captain’s Mode. Overall, the patch is one of balancing, as Valve attempts to tone down the strength of heroes such as Clinkz, Batrider, and Omniknight, who were often first-choice options for many professional teams. Here is a closer look at what patch 7.30c has to offer.

Valve releases Dota 2 patch 7.30c with balance changes

As compared to patch 7.30b which was released last month, 7.30c is a much larger update that has general changes as well as some significant changes to items and heroes.

General changes

Dawnbreaker's addition to Captain's Mode means all heroes currently present in the game can now be selected in professional games.

A widely discussed aspect that has emerged in the past few months is how easy it is for the carry to leave lanes and just head off into the jungle, where they will find a large number of stacked camps. A 15% reduction has been made to the gold and XP bounty of stacked creeps in patch 7.30c, which might lead to a change in how the games are played.

The Ancient Creeps have also undergone some changes.

Item changes

Echo Sabre has seen its Mana regeneration reduced, along with a decrease in bonus strength. The status resistance of ‘Sange and Yasha’ and ‘Kaya and Sange’ has gone down further to 22% from 25%.

Helm of the Overlord, an item that was considered game-winning on some heroes like Lycan and Beastmaster, has also been slightly nerfed.

There have also been minor changes to old and new neutral items.

Hero changes

Through changes to skills and talents, patch 7.30c has reduced the potency of some heroes that had risen to the ranks in the past month. Characters like these dominated drafts at the recent Sapphire OGA Dota PIT Invitational as well, where the best teams in the world competed. Among those heroes who have now been hit hardest are:

• Batrider

• Clinkz

• Keeper of the Light

• Omniknight

• Pangolier

Other heroes that were being chosen a lot, such as Sven and Bane, have also been negatively affected in the update. Other than the heroes with nerfs, Chaos Knight, Death Prophet, and Tusk are among the heroes that would likely benefit from patch 7.30c.

Several of the meta heroes may change dramatically after patch 7.30c, and future games will likely show a wider diversity of heroes. There are currently no tournaments scheduled featuring TI10 competitors, and because less than a month remains before the event, we are unlikely to see one. An indication of how the meta develops, however, can be gained from third-party events like the BTS Pro Series S8 and the Dota 2 Champions League 2021 S3.
