Ceb Posts an Update on His Health Situation After OG's Statement
Shortly after OG released a statement that its offlaner, Sébastien "Ceb" Debs' may not be competing at The International 10 (TI10) due to urgent eye surgery, the player took to Twitlonger to provide an update on his health. Ceb explained that he learned a few days ago, during a routine medical checkup, that his left eye was suffering from retinal detachment. As it turns out, he discovered it just in time, as he was within a few hours of losing his vision permanently. Ceb added that he had an eye operation right away that was successful. While it remains uncertain whether Ceb will be able to play at TI10, the two-time TI champion stressed that the successful surgery was more important at this time.
Ceb is recovering, but it is unclear if he will participate in TI10
As Ceb indicated in his Twitlonger post, he was striving to become fit for TI10. “Ever since I have been fighting every day to try to gain ground on the pain and the fatigue, hoping my recovery process would still allow me to attend TI," he said.
A number of Dota 2 personalities expressed their best wishes to OG's mainstay during this trying time.
Although it remains uncertain whether he will play at TI10, Ceb mentioned he has learned to stay positive during challenging times. As he explained,
“The bright side here is that my determination and fire to get ready have never been as intense.
The bright side is that I know my team is stepping up big time, because they have my back.
The bright side is feeling your unconditional and loving support.”
Towards the end of his statement, Ceb mentioned that since TI is just around the corner, he is smiling regardless of whether he can attend the event.
OG acknowledged on its official website that Ceb had to be flown right away from Portugal to France after he was diagnosed with an eye problem. The team is currently waiting to hear the doctor's verdict regarding Ceb's health to determine if he will be ready to fly to Bucharest in time for TI10. In light of this uncertainty, the defending champions have hired Team Liquid's Michael "miCKe" Vu as their official TI stand-in for Ceb. For the past few days, MiCKe has been practicing with the team. In regards to this matter, OG appreciated the support of Team Liquid and Valve.
At TI10, OG will defend its title after winning the event in 2018 and 2019. Ceb has been a key member of the team's roster for a long time; he's a big part of the team's identity and mental fortitude, and if he won't be able to play this year, it is likely to be a big loss for OG. Further, miCKe is originally a carry player, therefore there is concern over how he will perform in the offlane.
