Team Secret’s newest mid laner Miroslav "BOOM" Bičan opened up about his recent move on OG’s Monkey Business podcast. Many within the Dota 2 community expected Team Secret to stay together for the upcoming season following its second place finish at The International 2022 (TI11).

Following the surprising departure of decorated midlaner Michał "Nisha" Jankowski, the team were in a hunt for a new mid laner. However, Team Secret managed to find a suitable replacement in BOOM following his recent departure from Gaimin Gladiators.

“I was talking to Team Liquid’s management a bit, specifically Blitz.” - BOOM talks about moving to Secret

BOOM has made headlines during his time at Gaimin Gladiators, from finishing fourth place at the Stockholm Major to his amazing Storm Spirit plays at TI11 against Fnatic. However following the team’s mediocre 9th-12th place finish at its first ever International, BOOM decided to part ways with the organization in pursuit of greener pastures.

In the newest episode of OG’s Monkey Business podcast Episode 48, BOOM talked about his move to Team Secret with podcast co-hosts, OG CEO JMR Luna & founder Johan "N0tail" Sundstein.

BOOM first revealed that he was in talks with Team Liquid’s management & coach William "Blitz" Lee after TI11, as the organization were looking to replace the recently retired Lasse "MATUMBAMAN" Urpalainen. However, Blitz noted that the team was already full at the time.

“The first few days after Liquid announced that they’re looking for a player, I was talking to Team Liquid’s management a bit, specifically Blitz. But then he said that the position has already been filled.”

He then pointed out that Team Secret’s manager, Matthew "Cyborgmatt" Bailey contacted him on Twitter, as the manager wanted to let him know that team captain Clement "Puppey" Ivanov wanted to talk to him on Steam.

“The day after my chat with Blitz, I got a DM (Direct Message) from Cyborgmatt on Twitter saying that I should have a Steam invite from Puppey. Puppey started off by asking if I’m a free agent, followed by my plans for the upcoming season. It was pretty random to be honest, I would have never expected to play for Team Secret.”

He also noted that he understood the pressure of playing for Team Secret, as he has big shoes to fill in following Nisha’s departure.

“In my opinion, Nisha is one of, if not the best players at TI11. And mid laners especially, I think that he was the best for a long time, he was also super consistent so yeah, I have big shoes to fill in place of Nisha.”

Team Secret only made one roster change during the off-season, as it retained most of its TI11 roster apart from Nisha. However, can BOOM replicate Nisha’s success at Team Secret?
