Esports and MOBA fans are extremely thrilled about what’s in store for the in the next couple of months since both League of Legends World Championship aka Worlds and Dota 2’s The International (TI) are happening around the same time. With Worlds 2023 taking place in South Korea, and The International 2023 (TI12) hosted in Seattle, Washington, fans have round-the-clock, high-stakes MOBA action waiting for them.
While most of the time, the fans of the two games engage in heated debates about which MOBA is better, we occasionally find players appreciating at least certain aspects of the other game. In the same vein, one of the worlds best Dota 2 carry players from China, Wang "Ame" Chunyu, revealed that he was a big fan of the Worlds 2023 anthem, GODS.
During one of his livestreams, Ame appreciated the Worlds 2023 anthem featuring Korean carry player Kim “Deft” Hyuk-kyu, who won Worlds in 2022 along with DRX.
Ame Speaks about Worlds 2023 Anthem and Teamfight Tactics
After the conclusion of the Dota 2 tournament in the 19th Asian Games 2022, Wang "Ame" Chunyu went live to play some games and he also listened to GODS, the Worlds 2023 theme song, performed by the Korean-pop (K-pop) group NewJeans. He lauded the song for its inspiring undertones.
If you have not heard GODS yet and are unfamiliar with the League of Legends esports world, Riot Games releases a theme song ahead of its marquee tournament each year. This year the anthem was a heartwarming tribute to Korean ADC Deft, who completed his Cinderella run along with DRX in 2022.
Ame, who currently sits in the active roster of LGD Gaming, confessed that he and his fellow Chinese teammates from Team Aster shared a fondness for Riot's auto-battler game, Teamfight Tactics (TFT).
According to Chinese blog Dota Lightning Station and Twitter user CN Dota in a Nutshell, Ame said that he has played TFT with Zhao "XinQ" Zixing and his other Asian Games 2022 teammates He added, “I play [TFT] with everyone except Lu "Somnus" Yao and Xiong "Pyw" Jiahan, okay?”
With Dota 2 pros admiring Riot Games’ musical tribute to its atheles, the question that looms large is whether Valve should follow in Riot's footsteps and compose an annual TI anthem to honor its community and world-class players.
The idea of Valve collaborating with different artists to perform the TI anthem each year is exciting and would offer a fresh experience to diehard Dota 2 fans and newcomers alike.
This year, the MOBA community is keenly observing both Worlds 2023 and TI12. For the first time ever, Worlds prize pool has surpassed the TI prize pool. Only time will tell if this is a sign of Valve dropping the ball or if this is a genuine growth in appeal for League of Legends esports.
