PSG.LGD vs Evil Geniuses: Match Recap and Highlights

Recap

Game 1 saw a very quiet laning phase as both teams were content farming on their cores. However, PSG.LGD had a better read of the game as they completely ran over Evil Geniuses once they hit their item timings. Ame was a beast on his safe lane Axe as PSG.LGD secured an easy victory in 32 minutes.

Game 2 witnessed Evil Geniuses taking a sizeable gold lead with another high-tempo draft. But PSG.LGD never allowed them to pierce their high ground, eventually forcing the enemies to make mistakes. Like always, they looked to be strategically ahead of their opponents, making an impressive comeback to take the second game in 47 minutes.

Game 3 saw Evil Geniuses switching things up in their draft as they went for a greedier lineup with a mid Templar Assassin and safe lane Terrorblade. While Abed won the midlane matchup and helped secure an early game lead but PSG.LGD knew its timings and won a crucial teamfight even into an Abed Aegis. The Chinese squad then went on to display some top-quality gameplay, outplaying its enemies to secure a win in 36 minutes.

Highlights

Here are some highlights of the series.

PSG.LGD was a class apart in this tournament. The individual and team play of its players looked amazing as they won game after game. The team topped the group stages with 11 wins and just three losses. In the playoffs, they kept their form and kept outclassing their opponents. Teams were able to take matches off them, but it proved impossible to win a series.

PSG.LGD's greatest strength at the AniMajor is their Dota 2 foresight, the ability to read maps and understand their win conditions. An example of this is the fact that PSG.LGD let go of their mid tier 1 tower multiple times in the playoffs, unlike most teams that would try to throw bodies at it. They realize that defending the tower is not their most urgent requirement at that moment and can strike later when they know they have the edge.

Despite having beaten opponent after opponent, Evil Geniuses appeared as a tier below  PSG.LGD in the grand finals. However, they proved that they are one of the best and the most consistent teams in the world by finishing as the runner-ups in another international LAN event. This Major served as an excellent showcase for Arteezy's legacy in the safe lane as he delivered some top-notch performances. Evil Geniuses, as a whole, was outstanding and walked away with $100,000 in prize money.
