EternaLEnVy, one of Dota 2’s most cherished and entertaining personalities, explained the reason behind being involved in numerous late game matches. After the 2-0 win over The Cut in the NA DPC 2021 Season 2: Upper Division, Jacky "EternaLEnVy" Mao, stated that since his ultimate focus is to win a game, he always takes the winning chances to the maximum before doing something “r***rded.” Even if his team is in a comfortable scenario and on track to secure the victory, the NA carry stated that he intends to make the winning probability even higher before they try to end the game. In addition, EternaLEnVy also explained why he had been absent from competitive Dota 2 in the past months, citing a lack of motivation as a reason.

EternaLEnVy talks about his involvement in several late game matches

One of the primary factors behind EternaLEnVy’s popularity has been his indulgence in several chaotic yet intriguing late-game contests and his knack for making some bizarre moves in these scenarios.

Answering a question in the post-match winners’ interview EternaLEnVy spoke about his late-game decision making and his mindset in these situations,

“I kind of just play to win. I don’t really get antsy or bored. I think about the win condition. I think about how I can win the game, how I can lose the game. What’s the highest chance for me to win the game. Even if the chances are 70% to win a game, I would actually want to make it higher before I do something r***rded.

It’s just how we maximize the game to get the highest advantage we can before we end the game. And when I am losing the game, it’s like - how do I sneak in some farm and how do I make it so that they get annoyed and when they split up, we can pick them off and sh** like that. I think a lot about how to win or lose a game.”

EternaLEnVy moved to Teamfight Tactics (TFT) in late 2020 since he had become demotivated in Dota 2

EternaLEnVy stated that he had become demotivated to play competitive Dota 2 but was oblivious of this fact for a while. Only when he started to realize that he enjoyed TFT more than Dota 2, he knew his motivation for Dota 2 had taken a fall.

He also mentioned how pro players get annoyed in pubs and then begin to not really enjoy the game which leads to a bad mentality. Although now with his return, he has left behind that mentality, he stated that Dota 2 is a game that sometimes brings back that thinking.
