SumaiL will be making a comeback into professional Dota 2 by joining Team Liquid as a stand-in. Team Liquid revealed this through its social media handle, stating that their offlaner, Samuel "Boxi" Svahn, needed to take time off Dota 2 to spend time with his family. As a result, popular NA player, Syed Sumail "SumaiL" Hassan, would be replacing Boxi in the squad until the latter is ready to return to the active lineup. SumaiL is making a return after a five-month hiatus and will now be seen in action for the European squad currently competing in the EU 2021 DPC Season 2: Upper Division.

Boxi takes time off competitive Dota 2; SumaiL to stand in for Team Liquid

Team Liquid wished Boxi and his family “the best” and asked their fans to welcome SumaiL in the squad.

The organization respected the privacy of Boxi and his family and did not reveal the circumstances leading up to his break. In previous DPC post-match winners’ interviews, captain Aydin "iNSaNiA" Sarkohi, had revealed that their team had been facing some personal problems.

Several Team Liquid and Dota 2 personalities have poured in their best wishes for Boxi and his family.

Perhaps he can also step into the offlane role. SumaiL’s previous stint in the offlane role came with Evil Geniuses in early-2018. However, it was short-lived as he moved back into the mid lane in just a few months.

Currently, Valve rules allow a team to play with a stand-in for up to four series only, it remains to be seen how Team Liquid’s temporary roster change adjusts to adhere to these rules.

So Team Liquid's roster after Boxi's break will be:

  • Michael "miCKe" Vu
  • Max "qojqva" Broecker
  • Sumail "SumaiL" Syed Hassan
  • Tommy "Taiga" Le
  • Aydin "iNSaNiA" Sarkoh
