MidOne and kpii’s Team SMG knocked out of DPC Season 2 Open Qualifiers #1 by JaCkky’s Motivate.Trust Gaming

After receiving a BYE in the first round of 64, Team SMG registered an easy victory over Team Veteran in the round of 32. In their next matchup against Todak in the round of 16, Team SMG threw away chances to end the game early, making it last for 62 minutes. Courtesy of the pressure of the megacreeps that they had been able to secure, they were barely able to close out the game in their favor. The quarterfinal series against The Prime proved to be a convincing 2-0 victory.

Team SMG then faced Motivate.Trust Gaming in the semifinals.

In game 1, the team drafted an IO carry for MidOne, but the enemies seemed to have all the answers for it. While he was able to farm and pick up some kills, his teammates suffered massively, with kpii going 3-9-11 on the offlane Pangolier and Neah666 going 4-11-9 on his mid Pugna. They went on to lose the game in 43 minutes.

The second game turned out to be similar to the first one as MidOne and his teammates’ performance looked substandard in comparison to their enemies. While no team had a sizable net worth lead at 25 minutes, Motivate.Trust Gaming’s cores were out farming the enemy cores, helping their team secure a victory in 36 minutes.

While MidOne and kpii’s squad was widely considered as the favorites and the team that fans looked up to at this open qualifier, they have been outdone by the resurgent squad of Motivate.Trust Gaming.

Both MidOne and kpii are yet to be announced as the official Team SMG members, so it will be intriguing to see if they continue to stick together with the team after the second round of the open qualifiers. The second round will be beginning on April 8, 2021.
