The IEM Rio Major 2022 is finally upon us, 16 of the 24 teams preparing to go up against each other in the Challengers Stage. The venue for the same has been revealed by the tournament organizer, open to live attendance for the passionate Brazilian crowd.

All the teams in attendance have already proven their worth, having attained a slot via the regional RMR (Regional Major Rankings) qualifiers, bringing with them different types of playstyles.

Similarly, age is another unique factor that separates all the participants. Here is a look at the average age of all the competing teams and whether it has an impact on their initial placements.

Average age of all CS:GO teams competing at the IEM Rio Major 2022

A total of 24 teams have qualified for the IEM Rio Major 2022 consisting of a variety of players as part of their lineups from all across the world. The average age of these teams play a big factor in how they stack up against their competitors.

The rosters of some teams are fueled with young bloods, a few rely on experienced veterans, while most go for a balanced mix to fulfill all the roles perfectly.

To take a further look at how evenly split are the three qualifying slots in terms of average age - Contenders stand at 23.8 years, Challengers stand at 23.1 years, and Legends stand at 23.6 years.

A few interesting things to take away from the data presented above:

  • Imperial Esports despite being the oldest team in attendance is the fan favorite team at the tournament. It was the last team to qualify for the Rio Major and will have the strongest backing from the audience in attendance.

  • Two of the youngest teams - Spirit and Sprout, have managed to attain the Legend status for the Major and will directly be competing from the Legends Stage onwards.

  • All the three slots are in the same ball park when it comes to the average age, more than 23 but less than 24 which is quite interesting considering that the available bandwidth extends from 20 to 27 years.

It will be interesting to see what kind of an impact age has on the outcome of results as we progress ahead in the IEM Rio Major 2022, scheduled to take place from 31st October to 13th November.
