EliGE Talks About Team Liquid Choosing oSee Over m0NESY as Main AWPer
It seems Liquid had only one choice to go ahead with.
Team Liquid was in a tough spot at the end of a very mediocre 2021 season as it underwent a massive CS:GO roster shuffle that witnessed the arrival and departure of multiple players. The North American organization for a long time had competed without a talented and dedicated AWPer, something that they wanted to change going ahead.
Talking about this, Jonathan "EliGE" Jablonowski in the latest episode of HLTV Confirmed spoke about why Joshua "oSee" Ohm was their "main option" to handle the bolt action sniper over the Russian CS:GO prodigy Ilya "m0NESY" Osipov.
EliGE explains why Team Liquid opted to go ahead with oSee over m0NESY
Ahead of the 2022 season Team Liquid was undergoing a rebuild and looking to add a dedicated AWPer to its CS:GO roster. Their first choice was to go ahead and sign oSee from Extra Salt following his excellent performance in 2021, when he had held an overall HLTV rating of 1.29 along with an impact rating of 1.29 and a KPR (Kills Per Round) of 0.83.
However, there was a time the North American organization was not too sure if oSee would come onboard and were looking towards m0NESY as a potential second choice, which according to EliGE was "pretty much a shot in the dark".
"The main focus was oSee the whole entire time pretty much," said EliGE recalling when Liquid was still scouting to sign an AWPer, "I forget even what we wanted to do if we were not going to get oSee. I think that we were trying to see if we could get m0NESY but it was pretty much a shot in the dark. I think he was just going to G2 from like a pretty early part, so I think oSee was like our main option and he has been awesome so far".
Team Liquid has started its 2022 competitive season a bit slow as it failed to qualify for BLAST Premier: Spring Finals 2022 through Spring Groups 2022, followed by a 13th-16th finish at IEM Katowice 2022. However, qualifying for both Americas RMR (Regional Major Rankings) and ESL Pro League Season 15 - Playoffs has provided the much needed momentum to the North American organization.
