The talented Polish Awper Mateusz "mantuu" Wilczewski who joined OG in December last year was an underrated player at the time but since then the 23-year-old has worked hard and proved how good he really is, even featuring in the list of ‘Top 10 Best Pistol Players in The First Half of 2020’. Unfortunately earlier in July this year, the Pole was diagnosed with a painful condition called ‘De Quervain's tenosynovitis’ on both his hands which affects the tendons on the thumb side of the wrist.
In an earlier statement given by mantuu right after the player break, he had claimed that 90% of the condition had been cured after just a few weeks of visiting a physiotherapist. Now after more than 2 months of undergoing continuous treatment and having played in four CS:GO tournaments, mantuu gives an update on his hand injury and how he has managed to play through this recovery process.
Mantuu in an interview with The Loadout spoke about the current state of his hand injury as he revealed that this is the first time that he has experienced an injury while competing in any sport. He revealed that initially when he got this issue he would stop playing for a few days and it would go away but then either he overplayed or made some rapid movements because of which "I completely tore it apart (tendons in his thumbs)."
He said that his injury is much better now but there was a phase when he was constantly playing while visiting different doctors and each one of them was telling him different things, it was only after his family doctor diagnosed him did he start getting the right treatment.
According to the Pole his right thumb is more severe than his left but physiotherapy along with the treatment that he underwent during the player break has helped him a lot when it comes to getting rid of the pain although there are still a few complications,
“I can’t bend my finger. Like, there’s no pain but I can’t bend my finger fully – it’s not flexible, but the physiotherapy is helping me to fully recover. I’m in no pain right now, so I’m just trying to recover the tendon in my thumb.”
He also said that this condition will require him to undergo physiotherapy, massaging, cold treatment on a regular basis for the rest of his life. This means that mantuu has to always be careful about not over stressing himself.
OG was really helpful during this time says mantuu who went on to discuss a lot more things like OG’s journey so far in 2020, how he has managed to fit into the team, his experience playing CS:GO at the highest level, and more.
