The year has certainly been kind on CS:GO with the veteran first-person shooter breaking all previous records last month, for both average and peak concurrent players. At the time everyone heavily contemplated whether the game would witness more than a million concurrent users or not before the end of this year, well little did they know that the feat would be achieved in a little more than a month’s time.

Today evening at around 1900 hrs the peak concurrent players for CS:GO crossed the million mark with the numbers reading 1,001,756, making it a new record for the game, as it also broke the record for average concurrent players with 563,676.3 users playing the game on a daily basis.

Despite the Coronavirus pandemic hitting esports hard, especially CS:GO which witnessed the cancellation of IEM Katowice 2020 for the live audience, along with the cancelation of the ESL Pro League Season 11 as well, which is now taking place as a regional qualifier, the userbase is consistently increasing, reaching new heights and breaking old records to make newer ones.

The lockdowns by various countries being implemented due to the coronavirus pandemic might be a big factor in helping Counter-Strike cross a peak of more than a million concurrent players. Let's see if these numbers keep rising through the coming months or not.
