It was an incredible outing for Na’Vi at IEM Katowice 2020 as they beat some of the best teams in the world to go undefeated through the playoffs, lifting the trophy in front of an empty Spodek Arena. While this achievement can be due to the team playing really well together, it was Oleksandr “s1mple” Kostyliev that spearheaded the assault for his side by claiming 194 frags with an AWP.
The Ukrainian star who is “the best player to ever touch the game of CS” according to the team’s coach Andrey “B1ad3” Gorodenskiy, held the record for obtaining maximum frags with an AWP at IEM Katowice 2020. He was followed by Kenny "kennyS" Schrub, who trailed him by a difference of 80 frags. Jesper "JW" Wecksell, Özgür "woxic" Eker, and Nicolai "dev1ce" Reedtz were also in the top-five.
This stat alone was enough to declare s1mple as the MVP of the tournament, and a testament to the fact that what a beast he is on the $4,750 weapon. This also sheds a light on the poor decision taken by Na’Vi in the past when they had handed the AWP over to Ladislav “GuardiaN” Kovacs from s1mple, making him play with a rifle instead.
