Wild Rift Patch 2.3: Rune System Changes
The devs posted an update regarding the upcoming Rune System changes in Wild Rift Patch 2.3. In their post, they outlined the four main objectives that they followed when making these changes to the game;
- Develop a better choice structure for runes. Each rune has a use case, so they shouldn't be used in every situation. Runes can still synergize with certain champions, but they should be able to change if they are in a particularly tricky lane.
- Balancing runes that were over/underperforming compared to their competition.
- Fix runes that are overly narrow and have unclear values.
- Don't complicate things further. Consequently, the number of runes total didn't change, but existing ones were adjusted/replaced.
Keystone Runes
Your playstyle will be determined by these runes. The devs are making changes to these runes to add diversity to every player’s gameplay instead of just focusing on one Keystone for almost all champions.
Kleptomancy Replaced by Phase Rush
Kleptomancy is a chaotic item for the devs. This skill gives a random buff whenever you hit an enemy after casting a spell. Although it’s effective for Ezreal, it’s so random that it’s hit-or-miss.
A new phase rush rune will replace this one, which gives a burst of movement speed after three separate attacks or abilities are used in three seconds. Champions with the ability to spam basic attacks and skills will benefit from this rune.
Font of Life Rework
It is no longer necessary to impair enemies to activate this rune. If you hit an enemy champion with an attack or ability, they will be marked. You and the allies who attack the marked champion will be healed. Each ally can trigger this once per mark.
Domination Runes
The devs will not make any major changes to these runes. However, they may be giving small tweaks depending on how well they perform in the upcoming Wild Rift Patch 2.3.
Resolve Runes
In theory, these runes should improve a champion's defense. However, the developers noticed that they barely did their jobs. So these runes will receive some improvements.
Backbone Replaced by Bone Plating
[REMOVED] Backbone: Gain bonus Armor or Magic Resist, based on whatever stat you have less of.
[NEW] Bone Plating: After taking damage from a champion, the next 3 champion abilities or attacks against you deal reduced damage.
The new rune will be much more consistent instead of giving you additional stats that you don’t really need most of the time.
Regeneration Replaced by Second Wind
[REMOVED] Regeneration: Periodically regenerate your missing health or mana based on whichever percentage is lower.
[NEW] Second Wind: Gain increased health regeneration. Also, after taking damage from an enemy champion, regenerate a portion of your missing health. This effect is doubled for melee champions.
The new rune will focus on health regeneration to give Manaflow Band a chance to shine as a mana regeneration rune.
Spirit Walker Replaced by Adaptive Carapace
[REMOVED] Spirit Walker: Gain bonus max health and slow resistance.
[NEW] Adaptive Carapace: Gain bonus max health and gain increased defense when below 50% health.
The slow resistance from Spirit Walker barely makes any difference. The new rune will focus more on last-minute defense when you’re below 50% health.
Conditioning Rune Buffed
After 5 minutes of game time, the rune gives you 8 bonus Armor and Magic Resist. Then, gain 2 armor points and 2 magic points every 2 minutes. As the game drags on, the rune gives more bonus defensive stats.

Inspiration Runes
Mastermind Rune Nerfed
Turrets no longer provide a bonus experience when you use the rune. The trade-off is a 10% bonus to true damage dealt to epic monsters and a 10% bonus to true damage (Adaptive) dealt to turrets.
Sweet Tooth Rune Buffed
Honeyfruit will have the same effects after Wild Rift Patch 2.3, increasing Honeyfruit's healing effect, with an added effect of giving you bonus gold if you or a nearby ally consumes Honeyfruit.
The devs stated that they will be monitoring the new rune changes in Wild Rift Patch 2.3. They also added that there will be more changes coming in the game for the upcoming patch update.
