After an Alpha test in June, League of Legends: Wild Rift has finally begun its closed Beta in South-East Asia on September 16th. The Closed Beta is now live in Indonesia. Philippines, Malaysia, Thailand and Singapore are soon to follow with even more markets to be included in the coming months. So far the game has brought a total of 40 champions from the League of Legends, 34 from Alpha and 6 new for Beta. Their visuals were updated to better match their appearances in Lore and some of their abilities were changed to better work on mobile and consoles. There were supposed ‘leaks’ saying that Riot has another 15 champions in the pipeline including Yorick, Karma, Wukong. However, these claims were unsubstantiated. There has been no official statement from Riot regarding this.

How To Unlock Champions in Wild Rift

For the first few levels, players can unlock starter champions like Master Yi just by levelling up.

Players will also earn Blue Motes and Poro coins which can be used to buy other champions and unlock cosmetics (like skins and emotes) respectively. Riot is planning on making the game free-to-play friendly, so there will be many ways for players to earn enough through grinding. Completing tasks such as graduating the Wild Rift Academy will reward players with skins, poses and champions. Wild Rift will also feature a free champion rotation like in League of Legends.

Gameplay and Champion Differences in Wild Rift

There are a few champion differences in Wild Rift in comparison to League of Legends including in terms of ability progression, max champion levels.

  • The maximum level for champions is 15 instead of 18, and basic abilities have a maximum rank of 4 instead of 5. Ultimate abilities can be levelled up at levels 5 / 9 / 13 instead of 6 / 11 / 16 like in League of Legends. Several champions' abilities have been modified to accommodate either the twin-stick control scheme or the smaller scope of the match.

  • A new passive indicator on the health bar for certain champions has been implemented for Alistar's Triumphant Roar Triumphant Roar, Ezreal's Rising Spell Force, Jax's Grandmaster's Might, Master Yi's Double Strike, and Twisted Fate's Stacked Deck.

  • After months of teasers for Seraphine, the mysterious upcoming League of Legends champion, there may have been a breakthrough in regard to her champion kit. A data miner uncovered unnamed abilities for Seraphine, denoted at the top of the data file as “Hero 10034,” from the open beta of Riot Games’ new mobile game Wild Rift.

Champion Ability Differences

  • Ashe's Enchanted Crystal Arrow (R) can now be controlled (like Yuumi Prowling Projectile, with a turning radius more similar to Sion’s Unstoppable Onslaught).

  • Miss Fortune's Double Up (Q) and Annie's Disintegrate (Q) targeting input changed to direction-targeted from unit-targeted.

  • Vayne's Silver Bolts' (W) active grants bonus attack speed for 3 attacks for a duration and triggering the passive during this time grants healing equal to the damage dealt by Silver Bolts.

  • Vi's Blast Shield (P) has switched places with Denting Blows (W). Blast Shield is now an active ability. Passively, a stack of Blast Shield is gained whenever Vi attacks or casts an ability, up to 5 stacks. Casting Blast Shield will consume all stacks to grant Vi a Hybrid resistances icon shield and a burst of bonus movement speed for 3 seconds.

Denting Blows (W) is now Vi's innate. Bonus attack speed now scales with her level. The bonus physical damage dealt is changed to 4% of her target's maximum health at all levels and its AD ratio has been increased.

  • Twisted Fate's Stacked Deck (E) active increases the passive bonus attack speed for 3 seconds.

  • Shyvana gains bonus effects on her abilities while in Dragon's Descent (R) from slaying Dragons:
Infernal Drake grants additional true damage on Flame Breath's burning scorch area of effect.
Mountain Drake adds a Slow icon slow to Twin Bite's attack.
Cloud Drake grants additional bonus movement speed to Burnout Burnout.

  • Nasus' Siphoning Strike (Q) now grants 5 stacks for smaller units and 10 stacks for larger units.

  • Lux's Final Spark Final Spark (R) has a global effective range. Consuming Illumination (P) with a basic attack is now a non-projectile.

  • Garen's Perseverance's (P) health regeneration changed to based on missing health from based on maximum health. Demacian Justice (R) now deals 50% true damage to enemies near the primary target.
