The Dawn of Esports

The 2018 Asian Games was the beginning of a new era for Esports. It was the first time a major international sports competition recognized Esports as a match of talent, passion, teamwork, physical and mental strength, just like traditional sports. Even though players didn’t compete for medals, it was the first time they had a chance to represent their countries in a competition this massive.

The Asian Games 2022 will take this a step further, legitimizing it and perhaps encourage governments to provide support to this rising industry.

Esports was also included in the 2019 SEA Games, where participants contested for six medals. The event comprised of competitions for different game titles like Mobile Legends: Bang Bang, Arena of Valor, Dota 2, Tekken 7, Starcraft II, and Hearthstone.
