Popular Twitch star Imane “Pokimane” Anys is taking a month-long break from streaming. The streamer announced on Twitter yesterday that the quarantine and burn out have led her to take this decision.
“I haven’t taken a month off since I graduated from high school over 6 years ago, and I feel long overdue for some time away from my career and online expectations,” writes Pokimane.

Leafy’s Pokimane Video
Pokimane is one of Twitch’s most popular streamers with 5.4 million followers on the platform. She is also popular on YouTube as part of the OfflineTV crew which collectively has 1.65 million subs. The star has been in the spotlight in the past few months due to controversy surrounding streamer Keemstar’s tweets about her.
Keemstar received a lot of backlash from fans for his tweets. Last week drama YouTuber Calvin “LeafyIsHere” Vail posted a video titled ‘Content Nuke - Pokimane’. The video currently has almost 2 million views with its followup ‘Content Fallout - Pokimane’ at 1.4 million views.
In the videos, Leafy heavily criticized Pokimane saying her content was ‘not funny’ and she had ‘no redeeming qualities’ and was unable to take criticism. Leafy also claimed she had been hiding a boyfriend from fans, saying, “If you ever happen to come across one of her big-time fans on your way to the grocery store or whatnot ...be sure to remind them that she has a boyfriend because I think that they would really love to hear that little piece of information.” This led to #pokimaneboyfriend trending on Twitter last week. Keemstar further added to the drama tweeting out about banned words on Pokimane’s discord, which included ‘has bf’, ’content nuke’ and ‘leafy’.
Pokimane decided to respond to #pokimaneboyfriend by uploading a photo of herself standing with a cardboard cut out of former American President Barack Obama.
Several content creators like Hasan “HasanAbi” Piker, Félix “xQc” Lengyel and Steven “Destiny” Bonnell II have criticized Leafy for the video, calling him out for implying Twitch streaming was an easy thing to do.
HasanAbi got personal with Leafy saying he had no place to mock others on their appearance (as he did to Pokimane). Leafy has faced criticism in the past about going after people in his videos, some accused him of cyberbullying. After a long break due to his complaints about YouTube’s ad revenue system, the drama YouTuber had returned earlier this year.
