- PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds will be free to play next weekend on Steam and will be 50% off.
A little over a week after patch 7.2 went live on servers, PUBG Corp. confirmed in a tweet that the game would be free to play on Steam for a limited time.
New players will be able to buy the game at a discounted price of 50% during this period, making it the perfect opportunity to get into the game and buy it for a reduced price if you like.
PUBG’s recent patch included the announcement of Ranked mode and rules for it. They also enabled a two-factor-authentication for PC as another hurdle for hackers. The game also has bots included in its PC matches as part of the patch as a way to give new players easier targets and tackle the widening skill gap. This may be an effort to bulk up lobbies and bring down queue times due to a declining player count. However, there will be no bots in the newly introduced Ranked mode.
The number of active players has declined over the years and while April saw a boost (probably due to lockdowns), the number is still on a downward trend since 2018. As new battle royale games like Fortnite, Call of Duty Warzone and Apex Legends came into the picture, it really took a chunk out of the PUBG crowd.
