Choi "Edgar" Woo-beom, the head coach for Gen.G has left the team. Gen.G announced on Twitter that upon mutual agreement, they had terminated the contract with the head coach.
From 2014 until now, Edgar had worked closely with the team and guided them through numerous achievements including a World Championship.
"We wouldn't be here without Edgar and his incredible contribution to the team," said Gen.G Esports COO Arnold Hur adding that "We know Edgar has been thinking of taking some time off and we respect his decision, and we appreciate all the work he has put in to prepare our coaching staff to be ready for the season. We are tremendously thankful for his passionate work and all the foundation that we have built together at Gen.G."
Gen.G’s performance has been a mixed bag under Edgar. The team had not played in the LCK finals since 2015. Last year was not a good year for Gen.G as they failed to make it to the LoL World Championship. However, this year, they turned things around completely, placing 1st in the regular season to head directly to the finals. 2020 was supposed to be the year of redemption for Head Coach of Gen.G, Choi "Edgar" Woo-beom, as Gen.G headed into the LCK finals. However, that was not meant to be as T1 beat the team 3-0.
What Edgar will do in the future is to be seen and the question still remains, who is going to be Gen.G’s new head coach?
