  • In their final series in the EU 2021 DPC Season 2: Upper Division, OG got smashed by Team Liquid 2-0 to finish with three wins and four losses that rule out their chances of progressing to the WePlay AniMajor.
  • This also puts OG in a precarious spot where they will have to play and win tiebreakers to avoid relegation to the Lower Division.
  • Team Liquid finishes second and qualify for the group stage of the WePlay AniMajor. Team Nigma and Team Secret end third and fourth respectively and will play in the Major wild card.

OG looks to be out of sorts in the 2021 DPC Season as the two-time TI champions have failed to qualify to a Major for the second consecutive time in the 2021 DPC. In their final series in the EU 2021 DPC Season 2: Upper Division, OG got smashed by Team Liquid 2-0 to finish with three wins and four losses that rule out their chances of progressing to the WePlay AniMajor. This also puts OG in a precarious spot where they will have to play and win tiebreakers to avoid relegation to the Lower Division. On the other hand, with this momentous win, Team Liquid secured themselves the second spot in the league and are directly qualified for the group stage of the upcoming WePlay AniMajor. This also means that Team Nigma and Team Secret finish in the third and the fourth spot and qualify for the wild card of the Major.

OG vs Team Liquid: Match Recap and Highlights

Recap

Game 1 was a bloodbath as both teams constantly ran at each other without a care in the world. But Team Liquid started to come out with positive numbers at the middle stages, which escalated as the game progressed. SumaiL was superb on his mid Morphling, while Taiga put up a great performance on his support Enchantress to help Team Liquid take the win in 43 minutes.

Game 2 was a stomp by Team Liquid as they outdrafted as well as outplayed OG. With a mid Templar Assassin, offlane Broodmother, and a safe lane Mars, Team Liquid played fast and made sure OG had no way out apart from tapping out of the game in just 22 minutes.

Highlights

Here are some highlights of the series.

OG’s Chances of Qualifying to TI10 and Defending Their Title Dwindling

After having a rough season one, OG aimed to rediscover their mojo with ana back on the squad, but that has seemingly not worked out as OG looks rusty and inconsistent in their performances. Ana specifically does not look to be anywhere near his prime, perhaps because he has been away from Dota 2 for a considerable time.

OG will now have to battle it out against Tundra Esports and Brame in a three-way BO1 tiebreaker to continue playing in the Upper Division. OG can no longer directly qualify for TI10, and the only path to the International 10 is through the regional qualifiers.

On the other hand, Team Liquid will be ecstatic to take a 2-0 win. The fact that they are directly moving to the group stage will please them more. The team has looked a tad better with the addition of SumaiL to their lineup as they now win $28,000 USD and the all-important 300 DPC points.

Team Nigma and Team Secret do not need to participate in tiebreakers since Liquid’s win over OG guarantees them a spot at the AniMajor. Since Nigma defeated Team Secret, they are placed higher and take home a sum of $27,000 and 200 DPC points while the latter takes $26,000 and 100 points.
