AniMajor was announced as the second Dota 2 Major of the 2021 DPC by the tournament organizer (TO), WePlay Esports. WePlay Esports had been one of the few major Dota 2 TOs who had not been allocated a regional league and they now get to lay their hands on the coveted Dota 2 Major. The Major has interestingly been given an anime-inspired title “WePlay AniMajor,” which might be an indicator of some DOTA: Dragon’s Blood, the Dota 2 anime, related reveals at and around this tournament. As for the competition part, 18 teams from the six regional leagues will be competing for a total prize pool of $500,000 USD and the crucial 2,700 Dota Pro Circuit (DPC) points. It will be held in Kyiv, Ukraine, from June 2-13, at the WePlay Esports Arena Kyiv, without a live audience.

WePlay Dota 2 Major: All that has been revealed so far about the AniMajor

Format of the WePlay AniMajor

A total of 18 teams will travel to the WePlay Dota 2 Major. Wild Card, Group stage and Playoffs will each have six teams depending upon the standings of the teams in their respective Regional Leagues. 

Wild Card:

Format: 6 teams BO2 round-robin. 

The six teams who will be a part of Wild Card are going to be from Regional Leagues of Europe, China, CIS and SEA.

  • EU- 3rd place.
  • EU- 4th place
  • China- 3rd place.
  • China- 4th place
  • CIS- 3rd place.
  • SEA- 3rd place.

The top two teams from Wild Card will advance to the Group Stage. 

The bottom four teams will get eliminated.

Group Stage:

Format: 8 teams BO2 round-robin. 

The eight teams who are going to be a part of this Group Stage are:

  • EU- 2nd place
  • China- 2nd place
  • NA- 2nd place
  • SA- 2nd place
  • CIS- 2nd place
  • SEA- 2nd place
  • 1st Wildcard
  • 2nd Wildcard

The top two teams from the Group Stage will advance to the Playoffs upper bracket. 

The 3rd to 6th placed teams will advance to the Playoffs lower bracket. 

The bottom two teams will get eliminated.

Playoffs:

Format: 12 teams BO3 Double Elimination Bracket (only Grand Finals BO5)

The eight teams who are going to be a part of this Group Stage will be the six top seeds from each region and six teams from the group stages

  • SEA- 1st place
  • SA- 1st place
  • China- 1st place
  • CIS- 1st place
  • Group Stage Team #1
  • Group Stage Team #2
  • Group Stage Team #3

However, the only top eight teams at the WePlay AniMajor will be getting their share of DPC points and the prize pool. The remaining ten teams will have to go back home empty-handed.

Out of the total 18, only six teams have guaranteed themselves a spot at the AniMajor so far

  4. Virtus.pro (CIS)
  5. Team Spirit (CIS)
  6. NoPing e-sports (SA)

Venue and Location Details

Although the Dota 2 Major is a LAN event, spectators will not be allowed to view the games at the venue due to the ongoing pandemic.

Players will be required to quarantine themselves until their results turn out negative. All those who will be involved in the AniMajor are also scheduled to get tested daily with the presence of medical staff in the arena as well as the hotel. 

Livestream Details

WePlay usually broadcasts their games on their official Twitch channels. Fans can expect the same for the 2nd Dota 2 Major of the 2021 DPC Season. However, WePlay has also dropped hints of broadcasting the AniMajor games in 4K on YouTube.

AniMajor Schedule Details

The WePlay Dota 2 Major will take place from June 2-13, at the WePlay Esports Arena in Kyiv.

Image Via WePlay EsportsUnlike the Singapore Major that lasted for only 9 days, the AniMajor will take place over 12 days out of which 11 will be match days. There will be one day off before the onset of the playoffs. 

WePlay AniMajor is the second Dota 2 Major in Kyiv, Ukraine. Earlier in 2017, the city hosted the Kiev Major. OG beat Virtus.Pro 3-2 to claim the title in the Kiev Major. You can expect more information about the talents, the time schedule, and livestreams to be released in the near future.
