In the popular Dota 2 podcast, We Say Things 95, host SUNSfan stated that most teams from the CIS, SEA, NA, and SA are hoping that the ONE Esports Singapore Major gets canceled. Talking to fellow commentator/analyst, Troels Lyngholt "syndereN" Nielsen, Shannon "SUNSfan" Scotten stated that the EU teams were presented with the terms of the Major, which they agreed to, and the remaining teams were just “falling in line.” He also listed down some of the potential problems with the tournament. SUNSfan added that many of the teams are hoping that the tournament might get canceled. However, the teams also know that it is unlikely for it to get canceled.
SUNSfan states that many teams do not want the Singapore Major to take place
While Dota 2 fans are excited to witness some top-notch action in the first Dota 2 Major in 14 months, the teams have allegedly expressed their dissatisfaction with its provisions. SUNSfan stated that all this information has been told and confirmed to him from “multiple sources.”
“Most teams from North America, South America, SEA, and CIS hope that the Major will be canceled. But EU... Basically, they are the ones who were given kind of the terms of what the Major would be like, and they gave the okay essentially, and that’s why everybody is just falling in line after the fact. So the sources I have talked to say that the teams they have talked to are hoping that the Major gets canceled, but they don’t think it’s going to be.”
SUNSfan talks about quarantine rules at Singapore Major
SUNSfan then tells that these teams have a problem because there is a “48-hour quarantine,” which is contrary to the usual two weeks quarantine. He mentioned that this could potentially increase the risks of the virus’ transmission as 48 hours is a short time frame situation. He felt that the players could already have it or could get contracted with it on their way. In addition, SUNSfan stated,
“Teams are arriving staggered based on their seeding, so some teams are there a lot earlier, some teams not so much. The reason that’s important is because there are no pcs to practice on in the team rooms, and each team has allotted times in the practice room - which I haven’t been able to confirm how many computers there actually are, but combined with what I just talked about (it being staggered) some teams just have no time to practice before their actual matches like maybe half a day or something like that. So, a lot of teams are really upset about the conditions essentially.”
Though SUNSfan questioned the two-day quarantine protocol, both commentators concluded this conversation by stating that it was hard to determine if these problems should be attributed to the pandemic or the organizers. This was because they had very little knowledge about the actual pandemic protocols in Singapore.
