  • T1 has released JaCkky from their roster. He had been playing as the team's carry since November 2020.
  • Dota 2 fans have condemned this roster change as they feel it is harsh for JaCkky as he helped the team qualify for the Singapore Major.
  • While his replacement has not been announced as of now, there is a chance that 23savage might be the new carry player for T1.

JaCkky has been released by T1 from their Dota 2 roster. Lao carry player, Souliya "JaCkky" Khoomphetsavong’s departure from the squad is very unprecedented as T1 had recently finished third in the SEA 2021 DPC Season 1: Upper Division, and hence had been able to secure a spot in the first Major of the season, ONE Esports Dota 2 Singapore Major. The organization did not reveal the rationale behind this roster change as they just thanked him for his contribution and wished him the best. On the other hand, JaCkky has not made any official announcement after his exit from the squad. However, on his personal Facebook page, he simply posted "GG" about 12 hours before the announcement.

T1 part ways with carry player, JaCkky; Fans condemn the change

JaCkky had joined T1 in November 2020 after having a very successful period with Motivate.Trust Gaming. His first tournament with T1 was BTS Pro Series Season 4: Southeast Asia where they finished third and then in January 2021, they received a direct invite to the SEA 2021 DPC Season 1: Upper Division.

However, after having a rather decent DPC season with the team, JaCkky, unfortunately, now finds himself out of the squad.

T1’s roster after JaCkky’s departure:

  1. TBD
  2. Karl “Karl” Jayme
  3. Carlo “Kuku” Palad
  4. Kenny “Xepher” Deo
  5. Matthew “Whitemon” Filemon

Dota 2 fans immediately put forward their opinions once T1 made the roster change public, expressing their displeasure with it.

T1's roster change has come under fire from the Dota 2 community.Dota 2 statistician, Noxville did not mince his words while criticizing this decision from the Korean squad. As per Valve’s rules, T1 will now be deducted 15% of the points they earned as an award for finishing in third place in the SEA 2021 DPC Season 1: Upper Division. Their DPC points are now reduced from 200 to 170. Noxville, believes, “Creating a penalty disincentivizes the behavior, but it doesn't prevent it.”

JaCkky now has only two options left to reach TI10 since DPC points are awarded to teams and not players in the 2021 DPC Season.

  1. Build a new team, participate in and win the open qualifiers of DPC S2, and then play the whole second season in the Lower Division. Then he will have a shot at reaching TI, possibly through the Regional Qualifiers.
  2. The way he got removed from the team, someone else also gets removed from a team and then JaCkky takes his place.

This is a direct implication of what Dota 2 analyst, Kyle “Kyle” Freedman” explained in a blog post a day ago, on March 3, 2021.

The Lao professional Dota 2 player’s exit means somebody else’s gateway to the Korean organization's Dota 2 roster. Though it is unknown who will be replacing JaCkky, 23savage’s recent rise to the ranks and incredible talent may lead him to become the new carry player for T1.
