Singapore might be hosting the first Major of 2021 DPC Season 1
Titled as the ‘ONE Esports Singapore Major 2021,’ details of the event were revealed through tournament operator ONE Esports’, website. According to the announcement, the Major will be held in collaboration with PGL. A Liquipedia page was also created, which mentioned the details regarding the tournament’s format and the prize pool. It disclosed how the wild card, the group stage, and the playoffs of the tournament were to be played.
However, both these pages have now been taken down, as it looks like it was a premature announcement by ONE Esports. Neither the tournament operators nor Valve has made any public communication regarding the matter.
The ONE Esports Singapore Major was already planned in June 2020 as the fifth and the last Major of the 2020 DPC season with a prize pool of $1,000,000 USD. However, because of global lockdowns imposed to control the ongoing pandemic, the event was canceled in May by the organizers.
It is quite surprising to see ONE Esports potentially host a DPC Major, considering the fact that the SEA-based Tournament Organizer was not among one of the six operators chosen to host and run Regional Leagues during the DPC 2021 Season 1.
