Week 1 (January 18-24) of the 2021 DPC season 1 has come to a close after some spectacular Dota 2 action involving 80-minute Divine Rapier funfests, some major upsets and some top tier teams showing their usual top-notch gameplay.
Before the Upper Division resumes tomorrow, we take a look at the results in this division and the team standings after week 1.
Week 1 recap of Upper Division of DPC 2021
1. Southeast Asia (SEA)
Neon Esports is the Southeast Asian DPC League leader after week 1, having defeated both 496 Gaming and BOOM Esports. Fnatic finds itself stationed in the number two spot after winning their solitary series against T1. Also placed at the number two spot is Execration, who were able to pull off a major upset by defeating local favorites, TNC Predator.

2. Europe (EU)
Arguably the most stacked region if we talk about the Upper Division, EU has Team Nigma on top of its table after the first week. They were able to defeat Alliance and Team Liquid in two close series. Team Secret and OG shared the number two spot, both winning their opening series against mudgolems and High Coast Esports, respectively.

3. China
Another highly competitive region witnessed two big upsets take place in the first week. PSG.LGD, despite getting to a solid start to their DPC campaign by convincingly defeating LBZS 2-0 lost their second series against Team Aster 1-2 in an extremely thrilling series that involved an 80+ minute third game that witnessed multiple Divine Rapiers getting swapped. Another favorite of the region, Elephant was handed a loss in their opening series by underdogs Invictus Gaming. The third top team in China, Vici Gaming, had a decent start as they won their opening series against LBZS.

Region favorites, Natus Vincere, has started their DPC campaign with two easy wins over NoTechies and Team Unique. Two other strong teams in the region, Team Spirit (formerly Yellow Submarine) and Virtus.pro, also won their opening series against EXTREMUM and Team Empire, respectively.

The TI5 champions, Evil Geniuses, are back in action as they won both their series against 4 Zoomers and Sadboys in two very neck and neck competitions. The kings of NA in 2020, Quincy Crew, also won their opening series against 5ManMidas. Dubu’s stack, Undying, defeated A-Team in their first series. All in all, NA finishes its first week with expected results.

Widely considered as the favorites to win the SA Regional League, Beastcoast, has got off to a flying start. They won their initial couple of series against Team Unknown and EgoBoys. SG e-sports has also made a solid return to Dota 2 by winning their opening series against NoPing e-sports. Thunder Predator vs Infamous was probably the most hyped match in the first week, which ended in the latter’s favor.
