Zowie Extremesland South Asia Qualifiers - Journey Through the Seasons

The ZOWIE eXTREMESLAND CS:GO Festival 2020 which is being played online this time around due to the global health situation has been divided into five different regions. Already Oceania and the Southeast Asia regions have completed their set of matches to crown VERTEX Esports Club and Paper Rex as the champions, respectively.

Plenty of action still awaits us as three more regions are still left to be played out in the coming weeks. While East Asia region goes through a bit of a reschedule, let us focus on the South Asia region and take a look back at all the seasons of ZOWIE eXTREMESLAND that have taken place so far.

ZOWIE eXTREMESLAND South Asia: 2016 - 2020

ZOWIE eXTREMESLAND since its very first international season in 2016 has included Indian qualifiers as part of their qualifying process. Over the years this particular qualifier has grown to slowly transition into a South Asian qualifier, including regions like India, Bangladesh, Nepal, Sri Lanka, and more. Here is a quick rundown of the past seasons and what awaits us this time around.

eXTREMESLAND ZOWIE Asia CS:GO 2016 - India

The very first international season witnessed Team iNvictus qualify for the main event through the Indian qualifiers. The qualification process was a bit odd yet simple as four directly invited teams, Team Brutality, Invisible Wings, Team MxB, and Team iNvictus, went up against each other in a single game league format group stage.

The top three teams qualified for the playoffs, iNvictus directly for the grand finals while Team Brutality and Invisible Wings faced off in the semifinals. Each match was a best-of-three series and it was iNvictus that qualified for the main event where they went on to place 13th-16th while winning $1,000 USD.

eXTREMESLAND 2017 India Regional Finals

The 2017 Indian qualifiers observed the introduction of the open qualifiers. The four teams that made it through the open qualifiers directly played in the playoffs where every match was a best-of-three series. Entity Gaming was the team that qualified for the main event without dropping a single match through their playoffs run.

Entity Gaming fared a little better at the main event this year as they placed 9th-12th overall while claiming $1,000 USD in prize money. Despite losing a match to both B.O.O.T-d[S] and Eclipse, Entity Gaming won their match against the Filipino lineup of Mineski.

eXTREMESLAND ZOWIE Asia CS:GO 2018 - India Regional Finals

The third season of the annual tournament observed yet another change in the qualifying process as teams qualified for the playoffs stage through two qualifiers, Invite Qualifier and Main Qualifier. OpTic India was the team that qualified for the main event this year and were disqualified from the tournament due to the infamous incident where Nikhil "forsaken" Kumawat was caught cheating by the tournament admins.

eXTREMESLAND CS:GO Asia 2019 - South Asia

Despite the embarrassing incident which had transpired last season India still got a chance to qualify for the tournament but through the South Asian qualifier. This time a Sri Lankan team was directly invited for the playoffs while seven other teams qualified through the two open qualifiers.

Once again it was Entity Gaming who qualified for the main event where they once again placed 9^th-12^th to walk away with $1,000 USD in prize money.

eXTREMESLAND Festival 2020: South Asia

This year despite the tournament shifting to an online competitive format, the South Asian region received their own regional event where for the first time four teams are being directly invited in tandem with four other teams who will be making their way through the open qualifiers.

The playoffs are scheduled to take place from 29^th-31^st January 2021 with a total prize pool of $1,500 USD up for grabs. The teams will be brawling it out in a best-of-three double-elimination bracket, giving every team a second chance to stay alive on their way to the grand finals.

The invited teams are 2ez Gaming, BL4ZE Esports, Reckoning Esports, and Wicked Gaming. They will be joined by four other teams through the open qualifiers which are currently underway and will be coming to an end on 24^th January 2021.

Let’s see who comes out on top as the champions of the region, which is a golden opportunity for the teams to shine and claim the title of being the best CS:GO team from the South Asian region.
