Wild Rift Voice Chat Will Return in Patch 3.0
One of the most requested features in League of Legends: Wild Rift, the Voice Chat functionality, will soon be added in the upcoming Patch 3.0 update. However, the feature will only be released in the Americas region for the time being. Other regions will be receiving the voice chat feature once the developers have tested it with no issues surfacing. Through a short blog post, the developers revealed the reasons why the Wild Rift voice chat was abruptly removed from the game a few days after it was released. The voice chat feature resulted in a slew of game disrupting issues which forced the developers to temporarily disable it.
Riot Games dev explains what happened to the voice chat feature in Wild Rift
Wild Rift’s Communications Lead, Ben Forbes, answered one of the most frequently asked questions from the fans. Through a blog post, the dev revealed that the voice chat feature was removed due to game breaking bugs and glitches and that the feature is likely to return in Patch 3.0 for testing but only for the Americas region.
“If we see more issues, we’ll be taking it back into the lab before going worldwide,” stated Ben Forbes.
According to the dev, when the Wild Rift voice chat was released back in patch 2.4, players noticed performance and audio issues which disrupted the flow of gameplay. Due to the timeline of the patch releases, the devs had no time to release a bug fix for this issue which resulted in the voice chat being disabled until it is ready for deployment.
“Given that the next major release wasn’t far away, we didn’t have time to add any feature changes before our Patch 2.5 deadline.” stated Ben Forbes.
During the Patch 2.6 cycle, the devs discovered another issue regarding the Wild Rift voice chat feature. The issue applied to players who have updated to the recent Android 12 OS update where even if a player is on mute, the interface will still show that the player’s mic is active. This resulted in the feature being taken down again for further testing.
The new and improved voice chat feature will soon be added in Wild Rift Patch 3.0. The feature will only stay for at least two weeks in the Americas region. If the testing goes smoothly, the voice chat will then be released globally. Fans will have to wait for the upcoming Wild Rift Patch 3.0 preview to know more.
While players can opt to use Discord as a means to communicate in Wild Rift, it is still convenient to have an in-game voice chat feature where all players can seamlessly communicate within the game.
