Wild Rift Origin Series 2021 Championship Will Not Include Teams from MENA

Riot Games announced that the League of Legends: Wild Rift Origin Series 2021 Championship will not include teams from the Middle East and North America (MENA) region. The championship is planned to be held in Stockholm, Sweden but due to visa issues, the teams from the MENA region will not be able to participate. In regards to this, slight changes to the Wild Rift Origin Series 2021 Championship’s format and prize pool distribution will also be implemented. Instead of the teams being divided into two groups, there will only be one group of five teams where the top four will proceed to the playoffs.

Due to visa issues, teams who will be representing the MENA region will not be able to participate in the upcoming Wild Rift Origin Series 2021 Championship. Riot Games did not disclose any information as to why the teams from the MENA region couldn’t secure their visa to travel to the event venue which was in Stockholm, Sweden.

Due to this unfortunate event, the tournament will have a new format and prize pool distribution. The group stage of the event is set to kick off on 24th Sept 2021 but there will only be one group of five teams. Each team will be competing in a single round robin BO1 format. The team with the lowest point will be eliminated from the tournament.

The top four teams will then proceed to the playoffs on 25th Sept 2021 where the top one from the group stage has the privilege to choose its opponent from the top three teams in the semi-finals. Each match will be settled in a BO5 series.

The winners from the semi-finals will then proceed to the grand finals on 26th Sept 2021 where they will compete in a BO7 format. The crowned champion will win the lion’s share of the €150 000 ($175,000 USD) prize pool.

Here is the updated prize pool distribution for the Wild Rift Origin Series 2021 Championship;

  • 1st Place - €84,000 ($98,000 USD)

  • 2nd Place - €32,000 ($37,000 USD)

  • 3rd/4th Place - €15,000 ($17,000 USD)

  • 5th Place - €7,500 ($8,000 USD)
