The first official season of the League of Legends (LoL): Wild Rift Champions Korea (WCK) has been announced. The tournament will feature both official LoL Champions Korea (LCK) teams and qualifier teams competing at a physical location in the LoL Park Stadium in Seoul, South Korea. The crowned champions of the tournament will earn a ticket to the prestigious Wild Rift Icons Global Championship 2022, scheduled to be held sometime in June 2022. The WCK Season 1 will also feature a second division called WCK Challengers where the 3rd to 10th place teams from the qualifiers will compete separately.

Riot Games Korea reveals esports events calendar

To kick off the official competitive season of Wild Rift, Riot Games Korea gave fans a sneak peek into its upcoming esports event, the WCK Season 1. This was revealed through a Twitter post by Wild Rift Esports News.

The season will start with the WCK Spring Open Qualifiers where the top two teams will be seeded to the next stage. The two teams will then compete against four teams who are part of the LCK for a lion’s share of the $84,000 USD prize pool and a ticket to the Wild Rift Icons Global Championship 2022, the first official international esports event for the mobile MOBA title. Similar to last year’s WCK Preseason, the main event may be held online at the LoL Park Stadium.

Teams that finish 3rd - 10th place from the WCK Spring Open Qualifiers will advance to the 2nd division titled WCK Challengers where they will be competing for the $25,000 USD prize pool. This tournament will be held online.

Wild Rift Icons Global Championship 2022

Based on the esports calendar that Riot Games Korea provided, the Wild Rift Icons Global Championship 2022 may be held sometime between June and July 2022. According to a post from Wild Rift Esports News, the first competitive season of Wild Rift should conclude before the end of LoL PC’s World Championship 2022.

Riot Games is yet to provide more details regarding the upcoming Wild Rift Icons Global Championship 2022 so this information should be taken with a grain of salt.

Last year, KT Rolster dominated the WCK Preseason Invitational 2021 without a single loss throughout the tournament. The team proceeded to cruise through the grand finals against Break Free Gaming where the match finished with a clean sweep victory score of 4-0, in favor of KT Rolster.

Given how dominant the LoL and Wild Rift esports scene is in South Korea, fans may see a lot of underdog teams compete for a chance to take down the elite teams in the upcoming WCK Season 1.
